Re: First build: Small Special

Hi! After receiving a new transformer I finally could test the amp! Everything seemed to work fine, but before putting any tubes, I tested the B+ Rails. I discovered that there was almost no difference in voltage between different B+ Rails. Is this normal? I think that it could be because there are ...

Re: First build: Small Special

Hi! I finally found out that the problem was a faulty transformer. It shows continuity everywhere it should. I spoke to the manufactuer and they said that they will change it. Now let's wait only three more weeks  . To keep you entertained, here there are some pictures of the chassis: IMG_7174...

Re: First build: Small Special

Hello everyone! After working all this past week, I have finally finished. I'm sorry for not posting more information but later I will upload lots of pictures. I have some questions regarding the startup procedure: In my multimeter, do the filaments and the high tension wires have to show continuity...

Re: First build: Small Special

^Thanks for your dear wishes Matt! I'm also doing a tubes down design and I hope that, in the end, it will turn out to be a good amp. I also hope that you have good luck finishing yours! Thanks to all the other help regarding the chassis. Tomorrow I will order it. When I have it I will post some pho...

Re: First build: Small Special

Hello, After a lot of time researching all the materials in the few suppliers we have in Spain, I finally have everything I need. I have also spent some time designing the chassis, which will be machined (mainly) by my local metal shop (but some holes, because I want to fine tune the placement of so...

Re: First build: Small Special

Sort for my inactivity, but this week I’ve been busy ordering my all the parts, and doing this in Spain is quite and adventurous and tedious work. Anyway’s here’s a photo I took of the first shipment I received. I’ll keep you updated the following week

Re: First build: Small Special

I've decided to abort the tube rectifier experiment. This is the new schematic (I've not had time to do an updated layout). Power Supply v7.bmp I'm thinking about using clamp mounted electrolytic caps, so I put them on the side of the chassis while resistors in the filtering circuit are in a termina...

Re: First build: Small Special

^That's exactly what I used. The original drawing I followed is this:

The only thing that's important to take into account is that, after the OUT pin in the layout, there must be a coupling cap (I used 0.02 uF)

Re: First build: Small Special

Ok, after some redesigning I've finally done the schematics and the layout. In the end I've ended up doing 2 mods: Using a Super Reverb PT so I can add a rectifier tube and select between tube and solid state rectifier. In regards to the FX Loop, I've used a layout I found somewhere here instead of ...

Re: First build: Small Special

Thank you for your suggestions. I will definetely add it and I will probably buy Merlin's book.
BTW, I remember seeing in your thread that someone suggested changing the value of C3 and value of the cap of the second cathode. Did you ended up doing it?

Re: First build: Small Special

^So it would be better to just put a jack for every tap on the OT (4 Ohm, 8 Ohm and 16 Ohm) and just connect the NF to the 8 Ohm's tap? Thanks for the suggestion on the buffered loop. Following this schematic: s FX Loop -- Input-Output circuit.JPG Where would I have to place it? After the master or ...

Re: First build: Small Special

Quick update! I finally decided how the schematic will be. I decided to put a John Mayer Signature Tone Stack in there, as I want a really clean and kind of mid scoopy amp. Small Special (Draft) (Ampgarage.com) v4.png Do you see anything wrong? I will start to work on the layout tomorrow so this wee...

Re: First build: Small Special

Thank you all for your helpful responses. I've done a quick photoshop with how the schematic will look (later on this week I will draw it with some kind of CAD software. BTW, what do you recommend me?): Small Special (Draft) (Ampgarage.com) v2.png I took that tonestack from the internet. Maybe I'll ...

First build: Small Special

Hello, I've been a long time reader and after working with pedals I've decided I want to make an amp. I've collected lots of information about the Dumble Small Special and so far I've been analyzing this two schematics I found here: Small Special (Draft) (Ampgarage.com).jpg Posted on this thread: ht...

Perpetuum-Ebner 50's Record Player - What's inside?

Hello to everyone! On my first post I'd like to show you what I've discovered inside my grandparents old record player. It's a German Perpetual-Ebner Musical 99 Stereo, which as my father tells me it's from the early 50's. The electronics are working perfectly, but as the mechanical side stopped to ...
