Re: Good luthier in Tri State area
Sorry, but I had to chime in here. I used to have a small repair shop myself. Did many refrets. For someone to even mention moving the bridge on an old guitar would have to imply that the guitar never intonated properly in it's entire life. Not very realistic IMHO. I had to move a bridge for intonat...

Re: Killer Blues - Jon Woodhead On BETJ Tonight!
Hi Kenny. Just caught the morning show. Great. Jon can really play. The show should have been called the Jon Woodhead show. Maria was okay, but it would have been snooze-a-rama with out Jon on that stage. The keyboard player was okay too. I noticed that if I would have just caught the credits, I'd h...

Re: Killer Blues Player
Hey guys, +1 +1 +1 on all that. Very surprising. Jon is an extremely humble guy, and equipment aside, a very fine player. Answer to all that...... Know your equipment. I've gotten a similar sound (and response) through a self-tweaked Roland GT-3 into an Alesis RA-100 stereo Power amp into a 2x12 Yam...

Re: Killer Blues Player
Yeah, Great player. And that TONE. The only other guy that impressed me that much was Mike Miller...from Chick Korea's Electric Band II. I think the album was called 'Paint The World'. Another "low profile" KILLER. The only time I caught him live was on BETJ, coincidentally, with Al Jereau, at some ...

Re: Killer Blues Player
Hey Ken, Do you know which spelling is correct? Jon or John? I get more hits, especially concerning Maria Muldaur, with John. I'm currently downloading a Leon Russell video from YouTube that he is supposed to be on under the Jo h n spelling. I did get a site from a singer named Mary Coppin that the ...

Re: Killer Blues Player
Thanks guys. I knew someone here would know. I didn't catch the whole show, so I don't know who else was on there. I'm surprised he was in known bands back in the 70's. He didn't look old enough to me. Must have taken care of himself pretty well, unlike myself. Sometimes the music business can be ro...

Re: How many people are building amps right now?
I'm finishing up a 2 year build. It's a Melissa-type (actually 2 Melissa preamps...Ch 1 -EF86 into 12AX7 w/mid-contour between stages and Ch2 -12Ax7 into a Mid-contour circuit into another 12AX7) DC-Drive w/stereo FX loop returned into stereo 6sj7's driving a SE EL34 and KT77 on each stereo side. I ...

Re: Killer Blues Player
Thanks for your reply. Nope, not the guy. I ran across him when I was chasing down links and leads. I think he was younger than this guy...no gray hair. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. There's a gazillion blues players out there. The guy I saw with Maria was head-and-shoulders above...

Re: Killer Blues Player
Anybody?
I've googled till I'm blue in the face.
This guy was very impressive. I'd just like to hear more and find out the amp(s) he used.
He had the sound I've been looking for for 20 years or more.

Killer Blues Player
Hey guys, Did anybody happen to catch Maria Muldaur on Directv weekend before last? Not sure of the station. I just caught the last tune as I was just flipping channels. She had a guitar player with her that just tore up the Blues. He never ran out of ideas, and never repeated himself. The most impr...

Re: Wrecked Jr
I'm aware that there is no sag in a proper SE, but I had read that if you put a 100r (or so) resistor ahead of the reservoir cap, just after the rectifier, that you would get some sag. I suppose it was to starve the reservoir cap on hard attack. I also used the other half of the second tube to employ...

Re: Wrecked Jr
Hi drew. Yes that was my intention. Any more comments? ......all appreciated. Hey,Allenmey. I am familiar with the "derailment" schem. I kind of adapted it to my schem. I'm sure it won't sound just like a Wreck, but it might start leaning in that direction. I'm hoping. I'm more interested in the "to...
