Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Ok, I’ve got signal going to pin 2 of V1, then it’s gone. Re-flow, change tube? Oddly, when I use my “f Generator” app, when I touch pin 7 of V1, it shuts down and kicks my Apple Music on (with Siri sometimes). Hope I’m not frying my I-Pad. I should mention that I built a tracer probe and am just f...

Re: HRM Bluesmaster 50 PI trimmer help
Thanks Ian. If the method I outlined is one correct way to do it but my readings are not correct I need to fix the problem. I am indifferent to which method I use. I just want to get in range so I can fine tune by ear. I use the method Gil describes and have had no issues. Measuring at the PI tube ...

Re: HRM Bluesmaster 50 PI trimmer help
I prefer to measure at the power tube cathodes so you take into account the PI as well as the power tubes. You will still need to set it by ear thereafter as the OT introduces further imbalances.
I use this method described by Gil; https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 78#p216778

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
All right, just one more piece of co-ax for the OD CW and I think I’m there. Not the prettiest, but I’m learning. IMG_0202.jpeg It’ll have to wait til tomorrow - I’m going upstairs and having a beer; it’s been a busy week, lol. Nice work. Something to take note of, you may have done this already an...

Take a look at some of the 2nd/3rd Gen gutshotsRaoul Duke wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 12:15 am Thanks Ian!
Now that I look at it - the cathode makes total sense - but never occurred to me. I think I’m taking the layout diagram too literally (again, lol).
I appreciate the feedback

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Got the board in and I think all the PI stuff wired up as well: - B+3 on the PS filter board - V4&5 bias to pins 6 - Bias pot W - Power amp in jack IMG_0201.jpeg Questions: 1. Does the PI tube socket lead dress look ok? 2. Any reason not to zip tie the power amp in jack wiring to the power amp out ...

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Thanks Ian, I’ve been keeping an eye out for one on your advice👍 I have these two here already so I figured I’d start with those - but if a decent 12S shows up - I’m on it for sure. I think you will be very happy with the 12L. Each to his own but I think the EVs are so transparent, they really let ...

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Ha! I like it Martin! Thank you for the compliment! Just sitting here looking at my speaker stash and trying to decide which I’ll try first: an EV-12L or an Altec 417 that I forgot I have. Any suggestions? Tried both of them with 102 the other day and they really brought out the brightness. Also tr...

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Thanks Ian, I didn’t see the ground lift in the photo; looked like a direct splice. I appreciate the info 👍 Thanks for the details on that cable Martin. I was thinking “with regulated power and a relatively short run - why coax?” Trying to decode as much as possible with what I have picked up while...

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Thanks Ian! I might be catching on… a little - and slowly, lol. I’m using a lot of your 3rd gen build as reference material. The photos are really helpful. Any tricks to the 2 into 1 splice with the neutral wires? My gut tells me to follow the guidance I got for the OT plate lead; but thought I’d a...

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)
Following the period correct layout I see the ground coming off the preamp out jack seems to disappear under the board. I’m wondering if that indicates that the shield on the coax should be grounded there? It would seem correct because the coax goes to the relay and there’s not much to ground to th...

Re: 2nd Gen Build
I hear we are building 2nd Gens around here.... I am going for the the 1st Gen/2nd Gen David Lindley tone with this amp and thought it would be appropriate to make it a tribute to the man himself. I am using Erwin's excellent chassis and board set on this one. Have a head cab in the works from guit...
