Re: TR Traditional Clean Circuit

Thanks!! Ok very interesting as I imagined TC would have lower voltages (especially v1) based on its sound. But it has higher overall. :? :P

Re: TR Traditional Clean Circuit

Same questions I had in mind. Interesting, I think this theory is onto something. So if that's true then there wouldn't be gain being dumped via a 68k shunt (in JM), but then theres no triode to amplify it in v4, but goes straight to the PI./? Any possible components underneath the board Ryan? What'...

Re: Best way to get dumble low end power without too much volume

You did say you'd prefer more sag as opposed to stiffness you attributed to the ss rectifier and big OT. Here's a thought. And I know this because I tried it on my Ceriatone 50 w Mayer. Lower the filter cap on the preamp to say 20uF. Better yet make em all 20uF. That would make the sound snappier. A...

Stevem wrote: Sat Feb 12, 2022 11:51 am How much do they weight as compared to a real 5 watt box type?

I bet that even though the ends are sealed , that the core is hollow like a paper towel roll.
Hmm, not sure I can properly measure but they're heavy for the mass. Yes as in im convinced they're 5 watts if not for the markings.

Re: Unidentified Weird Large 3w Resistors

Nick, I see 3 watt, 5%. where do you get 5 watt? cheers, Hi, yea I'm basing it off from; The seller saying "5 watt body" and that it indeed is as heavy and big as those 5 watt box ones. Cause I'm about to put it as my 1st dropper but it actually wont fit its that big. Also more of curious of the re...

Unidentified Weird Large 3w Resistors

So I purchased these 2k4 3w resistors with an ad description reading as 1pcs, 2K4, 3 wat, body, 5 wat RESISTOR that's all they had to say. Any Idea why they're so big, so much so that they call it "5 watt body 3w" even for 5 watt resistors? Are these wire wound? Origins? 3watt 5 watt.png In any case...

Re: Combining Half Classic Power Supply/ Half Precision Power Supply

:D That's good to know! In fact I have F&T caps on the way, so I'm excited that they're better perhaps than my oem ceriatone ones, also they're 22uF so not far from the capacitance I have right now which is 47uF divided by 2. Funny thing, I should've included the actual link in my post above ^ https...

Re: Combining Half Classic Power Supply/ Half Precision Power Supply

Here's an example of why I said two series caps "gives more instant power" per googling:
"two small capacitors with a total equivalent capacitance to one large capacitor have a faster response time than a single capacitor."

Re: Combining Half Classic Power Supply/ Half Precision Power Supply

Wow very interesting intense stuff , thanks Tony. Good to see these kinds of power supplies. Oh mahn 700 volts   Also to add, the reason I wanna keep the series/ parallel config on the rest of the stages (Pi, Plate) is that I wanna keep the headroom and dynamics but still get that softer ...

Re: Combining Half Classic Power Supply/ Half Precision Power Supply

(parallel adds capacitance not half) Thought series and wrote parallel :) I'm not sure how it could provide more power.. I'm always open to learn if you have a link handy. I would go with what you feel is a better option. I don't think there is any issue with combining them Sure I'll be happy to li...

Re: Combining Half Classic Power Supply/ Half Precision Power Supply

I respect that view, and I agree on why you'd choose PPS. Except there's that camp that hears that softer character that a low filtration classic ps gives. It's been mentioned numerous times as well that a Series (parallel adds capacitance not half) config does provide more instant power. Now here's...

Half Classic Power Supply/ Half Precision Power Supply

Hi! I'm planning to convert my Precision Power Supply to a Classic 4x 22uF supply (dropping stages). Now I am starting to think "what if" I only convert the b4 and b5 nodes only? (reverb/mixing stages V2 & V4 and then V1) leaving the Plate & PI supply stock as 2 pairs of 47uf wired in series. What c...

Just to be clear, you prefer the amp with the FET simulator resistor and the lower V1 voltages?
Yes. It's like the amp is as it was originally conceived. Louder and dynamic as well

Re: That "FET Drag"

Oh thanks :D Yea definitely a different amp altogether! Finally all those YT clips of the limited 25 make sense to me now. The Ceriatone wasn't like that. There's something you feel in the clean. I feel the Trad Clean has more of that thing. Re 5751, hmm interesting thought. Definitely I prefer the ...
