Re: No amp is for everyone....
I tried the split resistor mod last night and it -definitely- gave my Express more headroom. It made the volume control much more effective in it's sweep instead of sounding like it's all the way up when it was only 1/3 turned up. I don't have any 12AT7s to experiment with so I can't try that just y...

Re: Meet Derek Ferwerda
So I'm playing a fund raising party tonight and on one of the breaks, who do you think came up and talked to me? Derek Ferwerda! Of course I didn't know who he was, but he looked at my amp (I was playing the 6G6 Bassman I built through a 1x12 cabinet - both labled Flamewreck) and he told me he plays...

Re: Amplified Nation Tolex Tutorial
You know, once I got the edges of the old black tolex pulled and trimmed, I realized that was the hardest part and peeled off the rest of it. Might have been a beer or 2 involved with that decision...

Re: Amplified Nation Tolex Tutorial
So cool, thanks! Just about to re-tolex a black speaker cabinet to blonde. I'm thinking of leaving the black intact on the flat surfaces and removing it from the edges, starting from the beginning of the slope. That way I'll have less work, double-covered sides, and the edges and inside edges will s...

4. Bypass switch for treble bleed cap going to pin 6 of V2
5. Adjustable fixed bias
6. Multi-tap OT (4/8/16)

My 6G6-B played by Shane Fontayne and Stephen Stills' tech!
So my buddy texts me a few days ago and says he's out on tour with Crosby, Stills and Nash (he's asst. tech in charge of the mains) and tells me to check their tour dates and see if they'll be near us. Indeed they were, at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, GA last night (7/14/12). He says 'why...

Re: Perpendicular Transformer Placement Guarantees no Noise?
I too had to mount my OT a few degrees off 90 for the least amount of hum. I used an old Foster power transformer that probably ran a gazillion tubes - it ain't pretty, but it totally rocks! The PT is mounted on plastic stand-offs that I wrapped in duct tape so they would at least look silver :shock...

Re: Ingrid "Mods" to my Express Build
Well, I thought I'd get in on the fun on this one too, so I tried a couple of these 'mods' on my Express. First I tried a parallel .0015 ceramic capacitor across C8 (I didn't have a .0022) and it definitely added some high low end, or low mids. It sounded pretty cool, but I'm always rolling off the ...

Lookin' way cool!
Did you ask the wife if she'd still carry the amp - at risk of breaking a fingernail - with those partial holes?
Dittos on the 'how is it to work with' question...

Re: Best current production GZ34?
That's what I've got in there now (Ruby branded with the 'C' at the end) and I like it, better than the other one I have (which is a Sovtek, not a JJ).
Thanks!
Thanks!
