RockinRocket wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2024 4:13 am My guess was he liked the taper of the 1M for the vol control, stock was getting low so he saved them for vol pots.
I've only seen 10 maybe 12 Trainwrecks so who knows if there were any other amps with other pots there.
Makes as much sense as any other potential explanation.

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

Nic, you're right those pots are a bit unique and likely not Clarostat/Honeywell. They have some characteristics of a Clarostat and Stackpole but it is very hard to say. Again, I wonder why the unknown 1 meg pot was used for volume than treble and bass in these examples. The pot industry tends to be...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

Malou is a very interesting example. The pots themselves are a great source of consideration for me as they each appear to have been selected for a reason. Either that or they were just sourced from a box of various pots! I know that Marshall used the "hot shield" regularly in their cascaded amps i...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

Interesting that Funk would have been involved in the Liverpool with the extra cap and 10 turn variable resistor. I wonder which amp that is and whether it is one of the more known or not. Also wonder if there was just a great deal of Mil-spec pots in stock for the Mids or if there was something abo...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

This seems to be a bit confusing because Ingrid (92) and Kitty (91) are Expresses. Malou is a Rocket from 97 from what I see, so something is amiss. The images in the below link, said to be Malou, certainly show a Rocket amp front and back but the "gut shot's" look to be a Liverpool. Great topic for...

Re: Help me Rocket Men

I'm not really certain what you are looking for in the way of direction... Have you looked at the Rocket documents in the Trainwreck Files portion of the site. There is everything you need to get started. Where actually are you with your proposed project?

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

RockinRocket,Yes both JMP's are the same circuits down to plate voltages, presence/NFB, pot vales etc.. It's been a journey but very enlightening. I apologize for my part in the unintended hijacking of your Logo thread. I have a great interest in continuing the discussion related to everything Train...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

Yes, I don't know that the opinions of the significance of original components will ever be settled or agreed upon. I think that we sometimes forget that manufactures are/were in business to make a profit. They generally look to purchase materials that are a good value (cost vs. quality) rather than...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

I agree that Ken had a standard circuit with given values and materials that were the basis of the amp models he developed. I also know that my 70 JMP50 doesn't sound the same am my 76 JMP50 even though they are the same circuits. I'm accepting that some of the components in each vary in their actua...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

I agree that Kens amps had an abundance of mojo. All that I have heard have been fine sounding amps but a few really stand out to me as what I look for in a Trainwreck. They may not be the examples that are others favorites. Ken built amps for many individuals with the intention of it being an amp ...

Two of the cabinets Mike made for me. Again, I found them to be great quality and he is great to deal with.

Post some build photos, if you have the time! Always fun to see these amps come together.
I'm looking forward to build photos too.
