Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!

I hate to say it but having the output transformer that close to the preamp tubes may create problems.

Re: How to determine rated power (specifically, EL34 vs KT66)

In general, how does one determine the rated output power of a tube amp? In my particular case, I am looking at a pair of EL34s vs a pair of KT66s in a push-pull configuration. At a high-level, both of these tubes are rated for 25 watts dissipation; so naively, one would think a pair would make for...

Re: Help with signal bleed on a 1964 Gibson GA-30 RVT

I notice that there’s no coupling caps before the 330k and 100k mixing resistors originally. Are you 100% certain that the signal bleed you talk about is not a normal condition of the amp?

Re: first meeting with X-over distortion - Ampeg SVT-3 Pro

I’ve never actually heard crossover distortion in a tube amp but I’ve observed it many times while watching the output waveform. On a tube amp it’s usually subtle and right at the point of clipping and never gets to be more than a slight turn in the center point of the sine wave until clipping is he...

Re: Hammond Ao35 iron??

I built an amp with 3 12ax7 and 2 EL84 using that transformer. It didn’t sweat it. Like I said before it’s the HT winding that’s saggy.

Re: Hammond Ao35 iron??

I think the heater supply is adequate for what you’re asking. The HT winding is kinda saggy and using it for more than 2 EL84 or 2 6v6 would probably not be advisable or I should say maintaining the 8k output transformer impedance would be best.

Re: WHAT A BEAST!

A Trainwreck Express with el34 has a harmonic content that fills the room giving the perception of volume louder than the actual power output. I am going to have to say that you most probably haven’t played a 100 watt Marshall through a 4 x 12 or a full stack. I say this because while a Trainwreck i...

Re: R.G. Keen ne-2 bulb transformer test

I just hook the transformer up to 120 volts ac through a variac and test secondary voltage output after doing simple resistance/continuity tests for verifying no shorted windings and confirming wire/winding groups. I’ve heard something about the bulb test but you’re kinda making it act like an ignit...

Re: New Build Issues

I think you’re problem is lead dress creating an oscillation but running a 6V6 like a 6L6 or EL34 doesn’t make sense to me. Put EL34’s in it unless you built an amp around a power transformer that can’t support the heater current but then I’m confused with the transformer design. Usually high voltag...

Re: New Build Issues

Actually they are 6v6 but they do tend to handle more voltage. They don’t have the ability to pass the current of a 5881 and aren’t built to do that. This is why they are referred to as 6v6. You’ll notice the cathode tube is much smaller.

Re: Transformer amperage question

I wish people would stop calling full wave bridge rectifiers a doubling circuit. Simple circuit analysis would provide enough evidence that the voltage is only rectified from AC to DC. A simple calculation of DC volts divided by AC output would prove that it’s simply close to peak positive voltage. ...

Re: Dumble ODS #124 Low Phase Inverter Voltages

The bias pot doesn’t directly affect the voltage of the phase inverter. It’s the power supply dropping resistors. You’d need to put a smaller value dropping resistor between the choke and the phase inverter supply.

Re: What makes high gain amps to have higher voltage gain thus higher peak dB gain?

I’ve read and interacted with all the conversations on every forum you’ve posted on. It’s clear that you don’t have the capacity to understand. Case in point is the lack of realizing that sustain through a pedal is different than the feedback generated from the interaction of vibration between the s...
