Re: First filter stage in a 100W HRM
I have 100uF caps in my 100W D-amps. Plenty of bass and oomph for me. In my fender amps adding too much B+1 filtering made them stiff and difficult to play. (BTW, in one in particular I added 100 ohms in series with the power tube plates, loosening it right up while retaining the bass punch). You ma...

Re: HRM clip
More a Rock application and rock sound. Its cool to hear a D-style amp in a different setting than jazz/blues. Sounds excellent in that context. Great sustain!

Nice bite and harmonics! Like the phrasing too.
Sounds bright for a Les Paul guitar, but it works really well.

6L6 for me too. Very sweet sound, with good harmonics. Really nice response from the amp!
Your'e too hard on yourself. The solo has dynamics and great touch, similar to LC himself.
How loud was the amp?

Had the same thought.Cool clip and nice playing. No hint of Santana influence, eh?
I don't know how you guys get such a good sound close micing. My attempts sound horrible. Yours sounds much less boxy than my attempts. Nice tone, with some good fizz on top!

Re: Non HRM vs. HRM
Hmm... I have to say, I like the HRM tone in the first clip a little better. Mids are fat on the higher notes to facilitate your horn-type phrasing. The term brassy has been used to describe dumble tones. Lately I've been thinking of NONHRM amps as tenors and HRM amps as altos. Maybe this is wrong, ...

Re: Non-HRM clip.... Comments please....
Nice playing.
For me... the dynamics were excellent, with smoothness and chirpiness. The tone was appealing, but my ears wanted to hear the midrange hump either up or down a tad. This could just be an artifact of mic placement or amp settings...

Re: Lend an ear please. I like this tone....
OK... I spent a little while in the basement :D With my teles I get pretty close to the sound Scott posted with my NONHRM amp. Interestingly, the settings that get me closest are the same settngs I use when I try to cop the Handful of Blues tone with the Baker. Another suprising thing. After setting...

Thanks to both of you.
Skyboltone: P/N is 566-8445-100 at http://www.mouser.com/
Gil: I'll check it out.
I'm thinking about 25 feet for the footswitch chord.

Maybe he has a stacked humbucker in the bridge?
I also agree with you all... great tonality but smoother than Robben's tone in this clip.

Re: Fine tuning/Blueprinting your amp-
I haven't experimented with the 90s topology too much yet, so this just applies to 80s... It seems that I've had the greatest success when I focus on a specific frequency I'm targeting. At first altering component values doesn't seem to have too great an effect. However, as you start to hone in on y...

Re: Two more BM clips to compare
First clip for me. For lack of a better description the guitar is more exposed. Midrange hump is a little higher... In that regard, more of a HRM than non-HRM tone, which to me could mean less attitude, but more personality  Yes, not has much of that classic dumble buzz, or hair, which puts mo...

One of your finest clips, me thinks!
Smooth verb, and the mids were just right. Maybe a little less high end sparkle than some other clips.
Some of your tastiest playing too!!!!

Re: Outer Foil Test
Ok.. So caps that are grounded, have the outside foil towards ground? caps in tone stacks have the outside foil towards the tone pots? coupling caps have the outside foil towards the next stage? Is that about right? Here's my understanding. The outer foil serves as a shield from ambient noise. When...
