Re: 1/2 watt resistors from Mouser look like 1/4 watt?

There have been several discussions about the ratings of resistors over the years. Most builders only look at the power (watt) rating of the resistor and not the voltage rating. They look at the drop across the resistor not the applied voltage...We get away with this because in most of the amps we l...

Re: Amp is a bit buzzy, could use some advice

I have built several SE amps with a resistor in place of a choke for the power supply. No problem.. What ViperDoc said, check your solder joints.

Is the first Capacitor in the drawing 0.47 or is it 47 ?

Re: 1/2 watt resistors from Mouser look like 1/4 watt?

FWIW I don't use 1/2 watt resistors. Nothing less than 1 watt.

Re: Single Ended Amps - Opinions

Late getting in on this discussion but if you want to look at some really good SE amps go to https://ax84.com/archive/ax84.com/classicprojects.html
The Hi- Octane amp will give you a lot of distortion. The Single ended lead amp is one of the best sounding amps I have ever built. JMO

Re: Considerations for an 18 watt Liverpool?

Not so far off, most of the 18 watt PT that I have looked at are 290-0-290. With the EZ81 that puts you at a rectified voltage of about 350 vdc for the EL84 plates and they drop the screen voltage down some from that...That PT with the SS rectifier will probably give you about 410 vdc...Don't think ...

The 18 watt Marshall is 2 EL84 p/p with EZ81 tube rectifier

Liverpool question

For those that have built a Liverpool, did you have to put a grid stopper on the input to the first preamp stage. Also for those that have a master volume control, which one do you like the best...New to posting on this board so bear with me...Looking at my first TW build.

Re: Excellent 5 watt valve practice amps

"What chassis does the SEL fit into" I used a Hammond 1444-26, 16 x 8 x 2, built as a head.
We tried most of the power tubes including the KT88. Always came back to the 6V6.

Re: Suitable choke for a 5F1 Champ?

Don't claim to know a whole lot about chokes. The only one I ever use for a 5 watt SE amp was a Hammond 156L. 5H, 135R, 75 ma, 400 volt. Worked pretty good..Heater wiring layout (twist and two wire) and DC heater elevation seems to work for me to build a quiet SE amp.

Re: TW type 3 master volume control

Thanks Ten Over. I ended up going to the old stand by of the voltage divider master volume control...It works best for me for sure... Would have liked to have tried the Lar Mar type 2 while I was at it just to see how it performed. Well, maybe next time.

I wonder too: Even if they got it designed there is a huge difference in building an amp and marketing and selling an amp.

Re: TW type 3 master volume control

Replaced the TW type 3 master control with, not sure what you call it. It is pre PI. I replaced the PI 1 Meg grid leak resistor with a 1Meg analog pot. It does work though leaves some to be desired. It will control but the control range is pretty small. Maybe 0 up to 3. But at least it is usable. Wo...

Thanks for the help guys. I'll take it out tomorrow and see what I can do pre PI. I'll follow up and let you know how that works.
