Re: Tube Town 5a3?

Living in Europe, i do a lot of business with Tube Town and I've always had a good experience with them. They are usually supportive as long as you don't hit them with too many sophisticated problems. English probably isn't their first language. If you order from them, do an inventory of the kit par...

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

Just curious. Does anyone recognise the make of this resistor? It's likely it's the cathodyne bias resistor: Rb = 1.5k.

Re: The McDonald Tweedle Dee

I noticed a shielded cable, white, so possibly teflon, passing under the board from the volume pot to the V2a grid. It's grounded on the side of the Normal pot.

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

Richard McDonald talked about this amp, and his experience with Dumble on Guitarwank 253.. It's a really cool listen: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4ZrxGkNVI078ogbQ6u9ccx?si=0e85bde680664706 Thank you. It was nice to hear of the real legacy of his friendship with McDonald. Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

Okay, that didn't take long. The schematic is done. First draft anyway. If you see any errors or think it could be improved, please let me know.

Now! Who's going to bite the bullet and build it?

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

Probably should clarify what is going on with the trimmer. B+ rail comes from filter to bottom terminal of 10k trimmer at the 100k and continues on to V1 off the bottom terminal. The 56k is on the wiper. I don’t know if the wiper and top terminal are jumpered but either way a variable resistance 56...

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

Just checked over on Rob Robinette's site and the Edge has .022uF coupling caps to the power tubes, plus 470 Ohm screen grids. I think this amp has them as well.

I thought the Edge Deluxe came out later, around 2016?

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

With some help from AI, we might be able to reverse the b/w filter. This is just with a free tool so I'll keep trying with others and Photoshop neural filters. Or you could go the other way and take a photo of a resistor and b/w it to see what comes close. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fifty shades of Gr...

...soft clipping on the preamp side, into beautiful, symmetrical clipping from the 6V6 power section. That suggests a warm, saturated tone in the preamp bias followed by a more symmetrical centre bias in the cathodyne. Giving it a harder, grainier, more high-gain sounding drive. The photos have a p...

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter

Great! Let's have the description as well. Seldom does an amp arrive that causes a genuine stir across the entire vintage community. It’s been 4 long years since we last hosted a piece from the most prestigious name in the history of amplification - Howard Alexander Dumble. The inventory is few, and...

If anyone would like something similar, just let me know.
It looks very nice, did you engrave it by hand? Well done! Does it mean your sockets are hardwired?
