Not Amp Stuff, but Speaker Dope...

Hiya.... just to be clear, the Corona Dope #10-4702 dries flexible & what is typically used for the surround on paper cones, correct? And if this isn't the correct stuff, what is?

Re: HILGEN BASSO 2591 Bass Amp Help Needed....

I'd also cut C8 down progressively. Reduce C9 and C10 to 22nF. But for what you want I'd redesign it to a single channel to add your gain stages. Thanks TUBEDUDE!! I'd love to have a great single channel setup instead of 2 just 'okay' channels. Do you imply that have my tech perform some sort of ca...

HILGEN BASSO 2501 Bass Amp Help Needed....

Good evenin' all~ I obtained this early 60's Hilgen BASS amp. Historically, Hilgen was a NJ company that was tied in with Sano, Giulietti, then what would ultimately be rebranded to Univox. Not that Univox had a model quite like this, but several other Hilgens did; 7591, GZ34, & a host of pre's. Thi...

Tubes For Mesa DC-3 Amp.......

Greetings.... What's a good choice for my Mesa Boogie DC-3 tube cooker? It's not necessarily a heavily used amp, so sound quality may be a tad more important than longevity. I'm looking at either a quad of RI Tung-Sol EL84's or some of the Soviet 6P14P-EV's. Any thoughts on these 2 choices, or any o...

Pardon The Brain-Freeze,, but....

I just picked up an old 60's Hilgen guitar amp, my 3rd one this month, and only one of the tone pot's taper is backwards🤔🤔
Do I simply reverse the connections to the outer lugs, leave the middle, and I'm in business?
YES, it's been a lonnng day~

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

Thnx Max,,, so take this green wire, & insert my double throw on/off switch there,, Green wire to one pole, & a wire from that (former) connection to the other pole.... then I can chassis mount somewhere on the back? Again, that Green wire goes into te tranny,, No issue, right? the only destination ...

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

The end of the resistor is connected to that Green wire which goes into the tranny, with ANOTHER Green wire emerging from the tranny & going to the speaker....
So, lifting that R38 as it sits (the tan side of board) on either end, won't remove the NFB?

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

OK,,, here's what I'm staring at, R38/68k NFB.... Being an above average solderer & welder, I'm still skittish around traces that one can easily be ruined ..... Given what I have here, depending on the clipped results, I'll probably want to insert a simple on/off switch.... If I quickly hit that low...

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

My on/off toggle has 2 connects,,, the end of the resistor will go to one, & a lead will go from the other 'connect' and complete the circuit at the point I clipped it? thnx

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

Thanks again, so just to put a lid on this baby, if I simply wanted to hear just how it sounds w/o the NFB, I could "interrupt" the wire from the spkr jack to the nfb R? And if I liked it as is, w/o any NFB, I could let it hang as is, perhaps just taping it off? thnx

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

Yèr all rockstars!! Thanks!! FWIW, this is all about my new old Ampeg AC12, which proceded their model GU-12, (favoured by Keith Richards during Exile & other players) 'round 1969 thru 1971. From everything I've been able to dig up, the only difference between the 2, is that they yanked the NFB on t...
