Re: Grey Bell Stancor A-3801 clone by Mercury Magnetics
I have a black bell cover Stancor OT and funny thing here, I talked with the Pacific guy that posted here a while back about making a clone of this. He is an interesting guy, nuff said, but he told me - after checking with his 'people' - that Pacific was not interested in cloning this OT.... Recent...

Re: screen resistors & tone?
Have a look back about a month or so for thread titled "screen resistors please weigh in". http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6201 Hey, thank you for that reference, very useful. It seems that my experience of less highs is consistent with the other guys. I probably can undo the other mods ...

screen resistors & tone?
I've been monkeying around with my Palomino V32 trying to bring it down to a lower level so I can have fun with it at living room jams. I did several things to it so I could pull two tubes and run it at half power. One is to replace the 100 ohm screen resistors with 1K units per some info in the O C...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
I'm late to this party, but I would like to jump in on the next round and get a board and other parts, next time you build an order.

That quote was pretty close to ureadable. I guess it must have been a bad OCR conversion?

Re: Acceleratied Speaker Breakin
As I understand it, there are two major modes of break-in. The first is to loosen the suspension parts which include the cone surround or edge, and the spider, making them more flexible, more compliant and less resonant at a specific "boxy" sounding frequency. The cone moves as a single unit, like a...

Re: Need help with Champ tone stack...
I think it's the speaker more than anything. You can get more bass if the amp is in a "wall", i.e. has other amps all around it so that the sound waves coming from the back have to travel further to come around to the front. Kind of a baffle effect. You can get instant grind and punch by lifting the...

Re: anyone try an EF86 in a rocket?
No I haven't. But the way I understand it, you'd have to make some other adjustments because the EF86 puts out so much signal that it usually replaces several 12ax7's functions in a guitar amp. You might need to eliminate a preamp stage or else pad it way down before it goes to another stage.
