Re: Drilling FR4/G10 Garolite
Definitely don't use oil. Definitely DO use gloves, or you wind up with itchy hands for a couple hours after... Trust me on that one. A long time ago I made a drill press just for drilling PCB's using a PWM speed controller and a 24v permanent magnet motor from a big old IBM tape drive. It used prel...

Re: Chassis Cradle
If you're into woodworking you could probably copy this pretty easily.
I made a dirt cheap very simple one out of 4 pieces of wood and six screws.
Search the forums for related threads, and hit google too.

Re: Soldering the Unsolderable
I agree, it's strange.. I am using rosin core solder. I was skeptical about the acid flux myself. I'm not giving up though.

Soldering the Unsolderable
Hi gang, Here's the scoop. I have a bagful of old stock CTS pots that I've had for a while. They have started to accumulate a sort of "patina" on the lugs. It's a blackish tarnish, and almost looks like what you see on silverware.. Well, I can't for the life of me get solder to stick to the stupid t...

Re: Something new from something old?
Here's a great place to obtain data for the tubes in that Bogen. They seemed to like to use some oddball tubes from time to time in their PA gear. http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=6av5ga With that lineup of tubes you could make a 25-30 watt amp. The 6av5 is somewhat like a 6v6 as far as dissipatio...

The sound you describe could be your setup picking up the transmit/receive activity from a cell phone or pda.

Re: Power Transformer
I have used that transformer in a tweed Deluxe, but it isn't really up to it. It will run a tweed Princeton or a Champ ok, but that's about it. In fact, it's actually too small for the mounting holes in a Deluxe chassis. The one I use in all my deluxe builds is the P-TF41316. It's good for blackface...

Re: Masco MA-25P Speaker jacks
Old Masco stuff is sweet! I have stumbled across a website somewhere that shows Little Walter with a Masco (ME-27 I think) next to him. I have a couple stashed away to convert to harp or guitar amps one of these days.

Re: Hammond PT question
You can use the center tap as your HV lead to your standby sw. or to the first filter cap, unless you've already wired up to pin 8 on the rectifier socket, then just insulate it and let it float.

Re: solid core wire vs. stranded
+1 on that. The biggest cause of solid wire failing is when you nick the conductor as your stripping it. If I nick one and there's not enough slack to try again, out it comes. I wish I had the dough to get one of those "hot tweezers" that the cable and harness people at work use. You just grab the w...
