Re: 5881 Datasheets

That does seem to be an oversight, or a departure from traditional practice, but given the max dissapation you can derive the limitnbased on your plate current and voltage yes?

Re: detuned cabinets

dumb question... why is always the woofer (port) positioned below the mid freq speaker? and why tweeter above the mid? in other words, i wonder why there is the "detuned" hole below the speaker in the below cab? http://ampgarage.com/forum/download/file.php?id=49519&mode=view Generally, betterl disp...

I had drawn this up a few months ago but I have not gotten around to trying it.

With respect, 10thtx
The James or Bandaxall tone stacks are a heavy load, especially from a plate driven source. More gain might be needed to drive the 5879 to effective levels as a hot channel.

Re: 20W 2 x EL34

Amps with that little wattage out of tubes that can pump 60 watts RMS out with 520 volts on then don't get much of the tubes true tonal nature out of them, however they should last a good long time! For me I would preference a quad of EL84s or two 6V6s, or for a bit of a different dance 5791 tubes!...

Re: 20W 2 x EL34

Maybe it's a paralleled single ended design. I tried that last year with 2 x 6CA7s. Killer amp. I get around 20-25 watts. Cool thing, being cathode biased, I can swap in big octals at will. I have an impedance switch on the back to allow for 6550s as well. Preamp is from a Hiwatt DR103. photos here...

Im using 100 watt resistive loads llike the type at parts express. I saw a vid somewhere of a lad that used dryer heating elements. Just cut to the measured resistance.

Re: Mesa Subway Blues problem

If the noise increase is minimal, it might just be current noiise from the additional current draw of the verb driver. That is if it's and old high current design with 2 stages in parallel cless a SE. If so it will likely go away wi the grounding issue resolution. Some circuits float sensitive circu...

Ultimate relic! When something like this slips out....make it a feature. Yeah we saw the need. Comes with a stripped rod for an additional fee.

They should have switched to scarf joints.

Re: 12dw7 cascode to approximate EF86

No problem jhawk.
I heard a few youtube vids of the amp. Some so-so, some nice. One thing ive found, when I've heard an amp live, it sounded worlds better than every youtube clip of it. So i'm sure the live Artemus is sparklier. Looking forward to progress.
