Re: What is going on with Gibson?

Ultimate relic! When something like this slips out....make it a feature. Yeah we saw the need. Comes with a stripped rod for an additional fee.

They should have switched to scarf joints.

Re: 12dw7 cascode to approximate EF86

No problem jhawk.
I heard a few youtube vids of the amp. Some so-so, some nice. One thing ive found, when I've heard an amp live, it sounded worlds better than every youtube clip of it. So i'm sure the live Artemus is sparklier. Looking forward to progress.

Re: The Mule Driver - aka Fischer Meets Dumble

RJ, how ever did you do the front panel lettering? It looks like a dremel with the ball, except it's too clean and even. Some kind of template? I know if i tried it i would be making another front panel and looking for my dymo labeler. Good job!

Re: 12dw7 cascode to approximate EF86

Have you heard the Artemus or Marquee? Yes. See my original post where I mention both these amps (which both employ a cascode in place of an EF86). Sorry, i saw the mention of these amps, and what other sources revealed about the circuitry, but it was not clear if you had heard them. If they have t...

Re: 12dw7 cascode to approximate EF86

The cascode doesn't really simulate an EF86. Have you tried a 5879? It's a real pentode and has less noise issues. If the Voxy chime is what you're after, that may be a stronger option. Try an isolated socket also. Have you heard the Artemus or Marquee?

Re: DC heater supply issue

Additional capacitance should help a little, after all 1000uF is small. And at low voltage, large capacitors are cheap, and small. Fast, soft recovery diodes are a plus too.
Good catch on the ground situation Mr. Manning.

I'd ditch the regulator/transistor and use the simple circuit Stevem posted.

Re: 100 watt heaven

That Carvin semi hollow makes me firm. I'd like to hear that with the Super!
I whittled down to 9 instruments but i might have to make an exception.
I did a few builds with Carvin necks, and my fretless is a Carvin LB76F. They are some of the best instruments made IMHO.

Wow, that board looks like it's connected with firehose instead of wire! JK😁. The chassis looks great, and the cabinet is spectacular! That post deco look is awesome. Good job!

It lived a good life. Was the spider worn out also, or was that just a byproduct of the coil removal?

Re: parallel preamp tube question

Never used tants as Ck, but i stopped using electrolytic there. I use metallized polys, usually 4u7 or so. In New designs, or were there is space, I use metallized polys for power filters also. Solen, Audyn, and the Dayton labelled ones are in usable values/voltages.
