Re: White Coax source??

The stuff apex has isn't the right stuff, the capacitance is too low and the conductor is too small, I have a 500ft roll of that stuff you can have for the cost of shipping. The right stuff has a larger gauge, I have some if you want, I get a buck a foot.

Re: EL34s for a Dumble. What is the smoothest and sweetest NOS?

Brandon, For the Love of James Doohan! Say what you will about amps lad, but I hope you’re not slamming Clan McGregor’s! AY it’s not a fine 16 year old single malt, but it gets the job done. :P And it works well for de-gooping amp boards. Lately I’m preferring the Highland Park 12 year old, w...

Re: Could HAD clone HAD?

THat certainly doesn't take anything away from Alexander, it's virtually impossible- but you can get VERY close, as he did.

Re: Could HAD clone HAD?

to be brief, NO.

I have a client that has many Dumbles, he sent his favorite to Alexander to be copied, and while the copy is a great sounding amp and is very similar to the original it is not Identical and it does not take a trained ear to hear it.

The other side of that coin is that we'll see how good YOUR recording technique is! it's tough to capture artifact and nuiance on recordings :D

Re: EL34s for a Dumble. What is the smoothest and sweetest NOS?

If you can't hear the difference between 30 year old filter caps and brand new ones perhaps a call to the Belltone rep in your area may be in order?

That's kind of like saying that a nice hand crafted single malt scotch tastes just like the big plastic bottle of Clan McGregor's!

Re: MM 212RD65 transformers for DMBL clone

I use Music man Iron, and find the sovtek 5881 the best candidate in the 6l6 vein, EL34's are hit or miss due to the shoddy construction of modern ones.

Give Andy some props!

In another thread someone lumped Andy Fuchs with the "takers" and not the "givers" here on the forum which couldn't be further from the truth, Andy is always helpful in his very matter-of-fact / oh-so-jersey way. That's all :D

Lets build some amps!

Re: TWOROCK 100 WATT CUSTOM ARRIVES! SWEEEETTTT!!!!

That's what I'm sayin! it's impossible to nail a particular amp exactly, and there are so many that are already so close it's splitting hairs. the problem is even if you go part for part and measure the specific value of each part, they all drift a bit over time and with heat, you're just chasing th...

Re: TWOROCK 100 WATT CUSTOM ARRIVES! SWEEEETTTT!!!!

Tag, I know what your amp is, it's a Low Plate skyline, 25uf bypass caps on V1 Standard OD. Sprague Coupling caps quite possibly with NTE Mylar .1 uf's and Nichicon/INDCO/ or Sprague 715's as the .01's. Resistors are primarily Blue 2% carbon film NTE's with the occasional Tan Sprague and Red Piher. ...
