Re: Correct Size Knock Out Hole Punches

depends on the type of mount and the brand, in my experience.... Best to just get a couple of good step bits and you should be covered. Just my $0.02.

Re: How to make overdrive that chugs

It's not (necessarily) about the amount of gain; it's the EQ and resonance that makes your cabinet "chug." There are a few schematics around for adding a Resonance control to your NFB loop. Beyond the palm-muted "chug" it tends to also feel like a different "texture" of clipping. Is that solely due...

Re: More Log for Fender Tweed Deluxe Volume Pots

For the past couple of decades at least, CTS have been just crap, an absolute joke, the elongated metal CCW track end means that 20% of the mechanical rotation produces no electrical change. Man, that explains quite a bit. I did a D-Lite and used all CTS pots and I thought they behaved really weird...

How to make overdrive that chugs

Greetings all, I just wanted to gain (no pun intended) some understanding of how to achieve that throaty, Mesa Boogie Triple Rec / EVH 5150, "chug" style overdrive. Is it all just gain+gain=moregain? If so, what stops their amps from hissing like a fuze has been lit? If not, what is required in a tu...

Re: The Legend has passed

RIP The Dumble "mystique" was what made me to want to build tube amps. The internet rabbit hole I went down to learn more about what made his amps so special is what led me to this site and sent me down this path of compulsively building amplifiers one after another. I bet Joe B might adjust his pri...

Re: Need Help Troubleshooting Tweed Deluxe Build

I can't really see it all that well, but it looks like the bright cap might be making contact with the ground on your bright volume pot. Have you tried moving wire around with chopsticks? Also, curious why you grounded your power tube bypass at the preamp rail? As I understand it, the prefered locat...

Re: Rob Rob's 5e3 cascaded gain on a switch

The switch end of your 680k needs a 1M to ground. So a 1meg across the tip of that switch? I don't know what the tip of a switch means. It needs a 1M resistor connected between ground and the lug on the switch with the 680k resistor. I meant top of the switch... I was on a mobile phone and it auto-...

Yeah, I plan on doing terminal strips. I am too lazy to add that level of detail in this software.

Rob Rob's 5e3 cascaded gain on a switch

Greetings, I was wondering if I could get some eyes on this to tell me whether or not this will work. I would like to take Rob Robinette's cascaded gain mod and put it on a switch so I can go down to just one input. Does my approach in the layout look correct? And since I am making a post anyway, th...

Re: 183 build questions

If you allready use a cap over the switch and diode over the relaycoil, extra caps won't help. When the relay switches, there is a very short time where the grid of the first triode is only grounded by the 1M resistor and is not connected to the low resistance of either the trimmer of the Fet board...
