Re: Canadian Express build

Great build for sure! So, you grounded the VVR straight with the local ground for the power tubes!?. I never saw that before. Thanks. I wasn’t sure where best to ground it, and saw another build on here that grounded their VVR in the same spot. They apparently had no issues so I did the same. I’m o...

What speakers are you using?
Thanks very much. I’ve got a pair of WGS Veteran 30 speakers.

Re: Canadian Express build

Excellent!! That turned out really nice. As for your Bones logo, I think it's a nice nod to Trainwreck. I see you added 2n2 ceramic over the 2n2/150k RC on V2. Do you find the added bass to be useful at low settings of the VVR? Thanks very much Dave! It's all due to the amazing content here, that i...

Re: New trainwreck clone HOWLING

I think I'll ask santa for an attenuator. You should build one of these. It doesn't cost much in parts, and is easy to build. More importantly, it works really well. I'm using one with my Express, I just finished building, and it does a surprisingly good job. The thread is super long (103 pages and...

Re: Canadian Express build

After a long and slow build I'm finally there! I want to put a massive thank you out to everyone who helped get this together. RJ for the box of parts, Colossal for the inspiration and help along the way, and Sluckey, stevem and Phil_S who helped chase down some gremlins and get me making proper noi...

Excellent.

Thanks very much for taking the time to help me get my amp sorted out sluckey. It’s greatly appreciated!
I’m still going to sort out the PT CT ground and the AC ground like you’ve suggested.

Cheers.

Hey sluckey, I figured I'd post my full voltage chart with all tubes in and everything working. Does everything look acceptable?

Re: potentially reversed OT primaries? Now Express trouble shooting

Stevem wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 9:47 pm Your fizzy noise when not touching the strings is normal for Amps that are safe from shocks due to no longer having a ground reverse switch.
OK, so I have nothing to worry about changing in the amp because of this then?

Thanks very much, for all your help Stevem!

Re: potentially reversed OT primaries? Now Express trouble shooting

This is important. The AC ground should not be mixed with the audio circuit ground. The AC ground needs to be separate from all the others and near the point where it penetrates the chassis. If the power supply should get pulled out, you want that ground to be the last thing that goes, so it can and...

Re: potentially reversed OT primaries? Now Express trouble shooting

I'll try swapping primaries next Earlier you said... There was a pretty high pitch sound the whole time. I thought this was because of swapping primaries, so I swapped them back. That made it wayyyy worse, so I've swapped them back, again. No need to swap anymore. You've already done that and the i...

Re: potentially reversed OT primaries? Now Express trouble shooting

Here is my voltage check on the preamp tubes. It looks way better! IMG_8006.JPG I'll try swapping primaries next, but I'd like to be clear on the sound that occurs normally when primaries are reversed. Will it occur with no volume or does volume need to be up? Do power tubes need to be in or can it ...

Re: potentially reversed OT primaries? Now Express trouble shooting

Haha. I'm cross-eyed! I was looking at the 1.5K resistor on the end of the board and thinking that was connected to pin 3. Duh! Pin 3 connects to a 2.7K so your resistance reading is just fine. Redo the voltage readings for V1, V2, and V3 and I bet they look much better. The amp may even play now i...
