Re: First-time build advice from a first-time builder…(Long)
Let me add : Learn to solder properly. The majority of gremlins and bugs you will run into will enter directly through a poorly soldered joint. If I had a dollar for every troubleshooting issue that popped on the forum that is solved by reflowing solder joints… Amen to this! It's been my experience...

Re: Tweedle Deluxe
Here's a brief description of how the dovetails were done for those who might be interested. First the boards for the sides, top and bottom of the cab are planed and cut to length. The wood for the inlay is also planed and cut to 10 1/2" wide, which is a bit more than the length of the bottom dove's...

Re: Tweedle Deluxe
I like how you planned your dovetail pins and tails to be the same width. Also, you've managed the front panel space nicely to allow all your options right on top. Nice job. I usually relocate the jewel lamp to the end hole to make more room for internals on vintage tweed-style builds. I like that ...

Re: Tweedle Deluxe
Was this how you did it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeTKRcnuWPI Congrats on a super classy build! Cheers G Essentially a similar process, I used an IncraJig, had it for years. There are templates included for "double dovetails". Its much more precise than the methods used in the YouTube vid, h...

Re: Tweedle Deluxe
WOW. I love the aesthetic, including the burnished copper knobs. Super classy. And the inlaid dovetails? Don't get me started. Did you inlay over the glue seam post box construction? I'm thinking no, you did something else. Looks great. Thanks. No the inlaid effect is accomplished by first cutting ...

Tweedle Deluxe
Hey All, haven't posted in awhile. Been happily building amps and instruments and getting a bit of travel in. Recently decided to do a solid hardwood version of the Tweedle Dee and landed on this. Sold quickly at a recent show here in Portland so building more now. American Cherry with inlaid Cocobo...

Re: Dumble on Craigslist
"Their hearing is only as good as the ear has evolved. Mine is perfect, I think no one else can compare, that’s why I build guitars and only a few very worthy artists have or will ever experience that privilege. It must be earned, never given freely." Would you even want to buy something from someon...

Re: 102 build hum at startup
:P Got it. I got to thinking that if somehow AC was showing up in the OT and all the wiring was correct and grounds solid, perhaps it was some DC ripple from the power supply. Sure enough, the first large filter cap was bad. Swapped it out and the amp works perfectly. I always measure my smaller ca...

Re: 102 build hum at startup
Looking at te voltages, with and without powertubes, there might be a problem with the first two filtercaps. How did you wire them? When they are not connected correctly (in series) the choke could be the cause of the hum you hear without the tubes in. Hi Richard, Here is the wiring diagram for the...

Re: 102 build hum at startup
Seems like something in the output section... It almost sounds like a really loud transformer hum. Also, the preamp voltages seem high. I agree on the character of the hum. However, the preamp voltages are lower if anything than my usual builds. Also, I don't think it could be FET bleed as the prea...

Re: 102 build hum at startup
I would suspect the output transformer or its connections. Measure the resistance on each side of the primary and see how they compare. I thought that too. Initially I hooked up the OT's common wire to the output terminal on the impedance switch. Moving that to ground made no difference. I've even ...
