Re: Replace overdrive pedal with real tube?
Thanks, but don't worry too much about the placement. It's all hand-wired, so even though it's physically near the middle of the chassis, I reckon I'll tie it into the current 1st stage ht feed, with decent screened signal cable we should be OK

Replace overdrive pedal with real tube?
How could I use a single unused 12AX7 tube in my Soldano Clone as an overdrive pedal? The Rosamp Soldano clone overdrive already sounds awesome. But whenever I plug my old Guyatone overdrive pedal in, even at really low gain settings I just love the way it seems to tighten everything up and add a bi...

Re: Line 6 Bogner Spider Valve Fault - Dying tubes?
I'd be tempted to back here ?..
So last night i fitted a jumper cable to bypass the standby switch and amazingly it was worse! The noise didn’t stop once it started. But i think that is just a coincidence rather than any direct influence of the switch.

Re: Tension - Resistance - Current -- Not strictly a technical amp info
Stevem :D Yeah, it's given me an idea for my next project. I'm going to replace the preamp cathode resistors with some of my favourite guitarists for the ultimate rock tone. I reckon Vai, Satriani, Gilmour and Robben Ford would do for a start. Just not sure if I will have to soak them first, and whe...

Make large rectangle holes in 1.6mm steel chassis?
Hi - I'm eyeing up a blank 1.6mm steel chassis for my next project. I already have a 50W transformer set, but they are the drop through / lay flat type and would need some fairly large rectangle holes to be cut out the chassis @80mm X 70mm. Short of metal jig saw or angle grinder!.. how would you cr...

Re: VHT cathodyne PI
Thanks GT - yes I had seen that excellent write up by Merlin. To be honest I've just stuck with the original schem as is and very pleased with the results. Not sure if I'm going to be able to hear differences between upping the el34 grid resistors, or adding a 470K to the cathodyne input, but we'll ...

Re: VHT cathodyne PI
Well I've just road tested the new cathodyne layout.. :D  :D  :D   8) Think this was the missing secret sauce, for me anyway. Tight as a (insert fav similie here), and bursting with rich harmonic distortion. So touch responsive as well. You know I hadn't played through a ...

Re: VHT cathodyne PI
Had been hoping that might be the reason - looking forward to trying it out this weekend. Unfortunately I can't A/B this new PI so a lot will depend on my memory, how I'm feeling, how much JD we have leftIt will cause some second harmonic when pushed hard (close and into AB2).

Re: Installing a choke in a Marshall dsl5cr
Is it OK to ask what you are hoping this mod will achieve?
I've built a few valve amps now, including the JCM800, and have been very pleased with the tone using a power resistor in place of a more expensive wound choke?

Re: VHT cathodyne PI
Thanks for the link Stevem. Roberto! Hope you will keep us up to date with your current project. And will try the alt CF you suggested one day. Were you thinking the orignal circuit would be underpowered to drive a couple of el34s? I'm not too bothered about vol as this is a bedroom / workshop amp, ...
