Re: Dumblelator straight-up, with a twist

Old thread reboot—Is it better to have all the MManning content in one place? (now that the damage is done :) ). This project started in the files area... but it seems to me it should continue here? Martin, LMK. Here's some chassis parts ready for tapping and finishing etc. I'll probably make the si...

Re: Dumbleator Layout

Here's a slight adjustment to Martin's boards with measured components that I have, clearly Martin's build is insanely tidy, but parts I have here wouldn't have fit in a few places—including the small L-brackets I tend to use all the time. I also would prefer to mount the socket directly to the G10 ...

Re: Dumbleator Layout

Some recent discussion on the send buffer and cable loss (https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32162) got me looking into the frequency response. It's true that the buffer is not very well equipped to handle long cables with its 250k send pot, and that will be a problem if the buffer's o...

Re: ODS #183 Build

Thanks Martin! Yours and Ian's guidance made it possible!!....(Visually, the next Dumble build will be that brown suede/silver combo I've seen around...).
Gotta build a pedal now...

Re: New 183 build

Does anyone know the mounting centres of the Merren OT? I built a 183 recently— my first Dumble build with a bunch of help the fine peeps up here. I waited quite some time for the Merren goods...He's pretty busy, YMMV. I don't have any direct comparisons but the amp sounds absolutely awesome to me....

Re: Vibrodriverb special

Nice work! This is fun to see. I have built a Vibroverb head, with a 15” speaker. It’s a great amp.

Re: Rocket / Build

Thanks Martin... I'm not above making new holes...and I'm also pretty convinced it's quite quiet in reality—coax and lid made all the difference... My comment was really only in comparison to the Dumble—just still surprised how quiet that amp is...For now it's boxed up and we're playing it. All the ...

Re: Rocket / Build

I was reading about the headphone trick (I've done something similar with hifi amps)...Is it as simple as plugging headphones into the output? (and moving the iron around).. I don't have a ton of wiggle room especially with the HT switch (quite effective that)... Tube rolling is a huge factor, haven...

Re: Rocket / Build

Little update.... In comparison to the Dumble I just built—this amp was kinda loud in terms of noise floor... I coaxed the input lines which made a massive difference... also note that having the lid on—I made a cover for this amp, really a bottom cover—not sure if that's the normal protocol—but I c...

Re: ODS #183 Build

Thanks guys! This is all super good info. Martin—haven't messed with the PI balance yet. I'll get into it. I'm super pumped about this amp....haven't stopped thinking about it... This is the first 100W amp I've built—is any part of how amazing this is due to it's raw power potential, say compared to...

Re: ODS #183 Build

Thanks!! EV in that cabinet in the pic, only speaker I have that will handle it...making a 2x12 with G12-65s... Damn it sounds really really good though—makes you want to play. We liked the Rocket in a different way (tried it as it was sitting on the bench), not nearly as versatile—but I really thin...

Re: ODS #183 Build

Been playing around... Anyone want to weigh in on some settings that you all like? Out of my own curiosity and learning....I know this could be a loaded topic... I have to say—it's glorious. I don't have an amp that sounds/does whatever is going on here... It's completely rich...and super fun, beyon...

Re: Rocket / Build

An update... was inspired to fire her up... and... drama!!! In short, no smoke, and 345VDC on B+1... but negative voltage on all the downstream caps??... That's a first for me. After verifying (again) all the connections in the cap stack... I figured either the standby switch is backwards (not)...OR...
