Re: Fender 400 PS, now on the bench. Know anything about this?
Oh, he plays his gear, he doesn't worship it. He also doesn't abuse it. Just the kind of guy we want to put an amp to good use. He'll probably use it to scare his neighbor's flock of chickens into a state where they stop laying eggs and molt prematurely.

Re: Fender 400 PS, now on the bench. Know anything about this?
With help from a friend, we got all the issues with the 400PS sorted out and it came out great. Sounds like a Twin Reverb with a perfect master volume control that seemingly has no upper volume limit, but also goes down to whisper quiet. And it takes a Tube Screamer incredibly well. The repaired rev...

Hiwatt DR504, looking for a little info
I'm posting on behalf of a friend who just acquired a DR504 in nice condition. Looks like a nice example. Other than some mildly bent transformer mounting brackets, it looks straight and undamaged. First question: Partridge transformers? Or some other manufacturer? Second question: Does anything loo...

Re: Rivera designed Super Champ layout?
Yes, if I do this, it'll use only 12AX7s. I'm well aware of the supply limitations of the triple triode compactrons such as the 6C10 and 6K11. I used to own a Super Twin Reverb which uses a 6C10 in it. I acquired a small stash of those tubes to support it, which went with the amp when I sold it. I'l...

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I got all the materials, I think. Had some issues with getting the right vectorbord. So I got the proper material and had a machine shop grid drill it to spec. I could start building the new boards today. I actually hope to get started this afternoon. I've got a week to go before the Orlando Guitar ...

Rivera designed Super Champ layout?
Who's got a layout for the Rivera designed Super Champ? I'm thinking it may be my next build. I've got the official schematic but haven't found the layout for it yet.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I'm going with old school Vectorbord perf board on this build. I want a fair degree of authenticity to the original build specs, although not 100 percent. This as it stands will be an EL34 build but I'd like to explore the 6V6 option. I'm using the Mojotone transformer set. Can someone here who KNOW...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?
I've actually never seen one in person so I'm not 100 percent clear on the exact form factor of the logos but in any event, whatever they are, they can be made by Mila Displays, Inc, of New York. They make my gold foil logos for the guitars I build, and apparently make PRS gold foil headstock logos ...

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
The stripping is done...copper not iron....and it was fairly easy. Yes, this is a type of vectorboard used by Ken Fischer, once the copper is off it. Now I need to cut the board to shape and place the flea clips correctly. Then the actual build can start in earnest. It's been shown that really old F...

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I was referring to the black fiber used by Fender to make boards, which is what I've always known as Garolite. That it's actually a name for G10 is new information to me. No, G10 epoxy board is pretty much waterproof. However, it WILL absorb ethylene gylcol and become conductive, which is (was) an i...

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I've also heard the word associated with the black fiber board that Fender has used on millions of amps and which drum cases are also often made of. I know G10 quite well. I just don't particularly want it for this build. I know that its mechanical and electrical characteristics are superior but tha...

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
Don't want to. Garolite (fiber) also can absorb moisture and become conductive. Even if you impregnate it with paraffin. Lots of old Fender amps have this issue.
I also want to use boards that are pre-perforated on a grid. So I have what I want to use.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
.062 I think. The clips fit the boards. However I've got to get some ferric chloride and strip the copper plating off the vectorboards. They're copper clad. That's OK, that strips easily enough.

Thanks. I ordered a few hundred. No harm in having enough for a few extra boards.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I've acquired a few vintage correct Vectorbords still in the original packaging, which I'll be using for this build.
Does anybody have the part information on the "flea clips" or turrets, which I'll need to order? I suspect Newark has whatever kind I need.
