Re: New 183 build
Hey Ian hope you are well, the OT's are physically wound in such a way that stacks one winding on top of the other making the resistances vary for each tube pair (or singular tube in 2 tube amp). From what I gather the amount of turns on each side of the tap must be the same (this is balance?), the ...

Re: Blacklisted domain - ugh
Either way, I have no ill will towards him, but have often wished I could do more to take things in hand fully. He seems to want to keep the domain his own as a kind of badge of honor or something similar. I know he pays some level of money to host the site on the hosting companies services. Just n...

Re: Draloric Resistors - Before and After - Video Demo
He must be measuring the resistance across the chassis. zero ohms. Tony, I'm going to say this real quiet, so Martin doesn't hear me, we did talk about how some chassis (grade of steel?) make for a bad sounding amplifier. CW If the silcon content of the steel in the chassis is too damn high, then t...

Re: Draloric Resistors - Before and After - Video Demo
Then we have the Ben Harper comment "he measured my chassis before he made the amp and found the right one. He showed me the meter " . Tony I've often wondered about this statement. It's like a game of telephone right? If we assume Ben isn't lying about that interaction occuring but rather j...

Re: Dumble 201
Would this be a bluesmaster? Is it possible to tell? A quick and dirty way to tell is? the cap across the bass pot. If it's not there then it's not a Skyliner it's a Bluesmaster stack  ixnvvzvqjl7kili0rorv.jpg 189 Ripper and Tremonti 221 uses the same CGW-MF 22.1K RN65C on V-1 Picture 112.jpg...

Re: Dumble Bargain
Interesting that the tube pairs are oriented in this manner, I tried to double check by looking at the internal view wiring but it's kinda hard to see. Did Dumble wire this amp to be paired as such or did the owner misunderstand Dumble's instruction when pulling 2 tubes for half power?

Re: Has anyone seen this Dumble before
I have found some TMI made TF-130's not sure if these are desireable though... If you want to share what you think I am very open to suggestions! I can't vouch for TMI. I tried the current MagicParts TF-130 and it didn't stay long in the amp. Not sure if they are the same. I used Merren transformer...

Re: Has anyone seen this Dumble before
Yes exactly, well maybe not as much haha. No but seriously that's incredible. Did you ever find out what contributed to it? I have been doing a lot of reading on here and noticed you posted about it So that amp was a High plate Skyliner and it feedback and bloomed similar to your friends Bluesmaste...

Re: EVM 12L series and year
That's some excellent information. Thanks for (re) posting it. I learned a few things. What I'm not yet clear on is whether or not the bumped out back plate always indicates a 300 watt version EV. I had a Classic with bump back and that did sound different from the flat backed EVM-12Ls I had. Hey j...

Re: EVM 12L series and year
From the back you will be able to tell because it will be labeled Proline if i'm not mistaken. Again this is just my limited knowledge. Why do you ask? I have one old EV 12L but I'm not sure if its 200W or 300W version Honestly I don't think I can help, but you could try to look at the apex of the ...

Re: EVM 12L series and year
Is there any visual difference between standard EV12L 200W vs 300W? From the front? I don't think so unless the 200w one has been damaged (you will see the cone having creases and buckling marks). The 300w one was reinforced to prevent this according to the post from edgewound. I've seen other spea...

Re: EVM 12L series and year
Thank you so much guys! In you opinion, late 80/early 90 are good speakers? I've been on this same journey, but I've been looking at EVM12S's instead. There is a great post on TGP by user "edgewound" which explains everything you could possibly ever want to know about these speakers and why some ar...

Re: Fender Super Reverb (AB763) distortion quality?
I record amps direct into my DAW through a reactive load. My experience is that this way, after applying a good Impulse response to the signal, it sounds pretty much identical to how the recording through a mic would sound. but the Super just sounds quite thin, a bit harsh and, well, scooped. Inste...
