5E3 Testing and troubleshooting
Hey All Now that finally the Amp is up and running and adjusted few things such ground, (As per Martin advise on previous post) is time to test the Amp. I am applying the same procedure used for 18 watts Amp I turned the Amp on, the light lit, no smoke, (No Tubes plugged in) all seemed fine and at V...

Re: 5E3 Standby Switch Configuration
Fender Tweed chassis don't have much room to spare, so I recognize that modifying your amp may be difficult. You certainly don't have to follow all of these rules to get a working amp, but these are the best practices: In general, it's best to avoid using the transformer bolts for grounds, as they ...

Re: 5E3 Standby Switch Configuration
Yes I understood very well and thanks I like to learn the best way
i am still on time to modify i have no rush those are learning experience for me the only downside atm is I don't know if I can build more amps since there is shortage of tubes
Thanks

Re: 5E3 Standby Switch Configuration
I hope I have built correctly the point is one on the Stewmac schematics layout the Standby switch is mounted but not connected On the Mojotone Layout the standBy switch is connected using a .0047uF cap between the standby switch lug and the chassis ground, is that ok? I believe you are referring t...

5E3 Standby Switch Configuration
Hey All, I have mostly followed the Stewmac Schematic for building my 5E3. I just finished it . I hope I have built correctly the point is one on the Stewmac schematics layout the Standby switch is mounted but not connected On the Mojotone Layout the standBy switch is connected using a .0047uF cap b...

Re: 5e3 Turret Board (Insulator sheet) question
Photos could help. I found this online. Is this the location where you are having the problem? Are you using Switchcraft type jacks? It looks to me like you can rotate the jacks to solve the problem, but this isn't the kit you have. Yes that is the side I meant, true the jack can rotate, and I coul...

Re: 5e3 Turret Board (Insulator sheet) question
If I put on the chassis a 0.5mm standoff which are the shortest I could find on the market the board turrets hit the jacks for the bright and normal, which may cause a short. 1) Why use 0.5mm standoff? I must be missing something. Use something longer. I suggest around 5-6mm. Then you don't need an...

Re: 5e3 Turret Board (Insulator sheet) question
let me try a much higher standoff but I am sorry for typo I meant .5 cm so I guess I must for for a 1,5cm because I already tested with .5 cm and 1 cm and still touches the jack

5e3 Turret Board (Insulator sheet) question
Hey All I have began recently a new project a 5E3 but I ended up with a little problem The kit was shipped with Turret board but doesn't have an insulator board to place underneath. If I put on the chassis a 0.5cm standoff which are the shortest I could find on the market the board turrets hit the j...

Re: 5E3 power transformer wiring leads color help (Missing Data Sheet)
So the leads are correct and thanks Martin initially and everyone else for suggestions and advises, while building this Amp this time I am taking opportunity to do some study since I bought "Designing Valve Preamps for Guitar and Bass" book very interesting stuff. My soldering is going a lot better ...

Re: 5E3 power transformer wiring leads color help (Missing Data Sheet)
Hey all
Thanks for all the info
so I will use the 2x 100Ohm resistors, therefore I can cut short that black and isolate it with heat shrink tube together with the other unused leads such the blue ones and few others right?
Thanks

Re: 5E3 power transformer wiring leads color help (Missing Data Sheet)
You can ground the black heater center tap, but you don't have to. See my post above. I would clip any exposed conductors and bundle the unused leads out of the way for now. Yes the concept of (the heater center tap) is clear for both (the heater center tap) and (the HV center tap) basically if I g...

Re: 5E3 power transformer wiring leads color help (Missing Data Sheet)
However there are 2 blacks left, which one is it, how can I see it is the one matching Red/Yel? Connect one ohm meter probe to a green wire, Touch a black wire with the other probe. The one that shows resistance reading is the one to use as the red/yellow wire. But it really doesn't matter because ...

Re: 5E3 power transformer wiring leads color help (Missing Data Sheet)
You are going to have to separate the leads for each winding by checking for continuity, or measuring resistance. For example, all the leads on the high voltage secondary will have some finite resistance between them, and infinite resistance to leads on any other winding. Ok got it! I think I under...
