Re: Missing 2-prong power cord
Guys, thanks for the suggestions; I am choosing to avoid cutting a hole if possible, and trying to maintain the "vintage integrity" of this piece. It's not be played as much as appreciated... sorry, I'm getting a bit anal about it. I know the safety issues; I've converted power cords before and unde...

Missing 2-prong power cord
I am doing a restoration on a Magnatone M7 tube amp and can't find a power cord. It uses an old-style 2-prong removable cord like a lot of stuff from the 60's. Anyone know where I can buy one? Yes, I should convert it to a 3-prong, but I don't want to cut a hole into the cabinet; no other way to cha...

Parts source
I have a Silvertone 1483 head that needs a cap job. One internal 16uf 450 volt; no big deal to find those. However, it has a 3 section cap can that looks like a 20-10-5 450 Volt. Where can I find these? If I can't get an exact match, what could I substitute for it? I would prefer to stay with a cap ...

Epiphone LP upgrades?
Just bagged a cheap epiphone LP from flea- bay. It has some heavy-metal pickups that will be yanked as soon as some new ones come in. Tuners on it are the old Deluxe-style that are not too bad, but I plan to replace them. Give me some opinions, gang! Here are my questions: 1) I'm OK doing the solder...

Re: Who made this amp?
Silvertone makes sense; it sort of has that look. Yes, it sounds pretty good; I just had it checked out. Reverb could be better, though; cables aren't shielded. Trem sounds good. Sort of the a poor man's Fender Twin, maybe? I'm getting ready to have a buddy list it on Fleebay but hate not to be accu...

Who made this amp?
Can anyone tell me positively who made this one? I'm thinking it could be a Wards, an Airline, a Silvertone...not sure. There is a label in the back with a tube chart, and a very small word that says "Interstate", but no model number. Amp has a reverb and tremolo, and is 2 channel. Has 4 6L6 tubes.....

Arlington Guitar Show
Anyone coming out to the Arlington Guitar Show this weekend? http://www.texasguitarshows.com/ I'm driving over from Little Rock to help a buddy run his booth. Come see us! It's the Backstage Guitar Gallery booth. I have a couple of builds I'm bringing, too: a JTM45 clone, a Trinity 18 watt TMB (sIII...

Rivera Chubster with problem on E string
My buddy has a Rivera Chubster combo (the one with EL34's) that has a nasty problem. Everything sounds great until you play the bass E string: then a problem begins. It sounds as though the E string is feeding back, but it's not an octave or two higher: it's the same note as an open E. Only way to s...

How do I test the reverb on a Marshall DSL401 with no pedal?
Long story short: bought a Marshall DSL401 but it didn't come with the pedal. Played the amp: no reverb. How do I test this with no pedal? Or is the pedal required?
Answers from knowledgeable folks welcome...! Thanks.

Need to rewire a Fender super reverb pedal
I have a blackface Super Reverb I am resuscitating, and it's time to fix the original pedal that came with it. Looks like it uses regular old male RCA tips, but...I've never seen owned or even used a Super before. The cable has two wires in it, one is shielded. I assume that each wire gets soldered ...

DC30 tweaks
I'm thinking about making one of these from a Ceriatone kit, too. Nik's stuff is great, I agree... I came to similar conclusions: order the kit from Nik without trannies, then get trannies stateside from the family you mentioned. One concern is the EF86 tube. New production is horrible. I have heard...

Source for speaker baffle ready to drop in?
I am looking for a couple of sources for speaker baffles for a project for a customer. Baffles need to be cut out for a 12" speaker with Fender-style oxblood grill cloth, t-nuts installed, mount holes drilled... in other words, I want these ready to drop in to my cabs. Any ideas for where to buy the...

Re: Princeton Reverb Crackling/Zapping Sound
Bob, I had the same thing happen to me recently on a Princeton Reverb, but it was only when the reverb was on. I figured it was the reverb cap, ordered another one, and when it came in started to take out the chassis, then realized one reverb cable was longer than the other, which seemed to be stret...
