Re: #0183 Build

Nice looking amp Ian, I'm glad you got it up and running. Have a look at the plate lead in the picture; double check to make sure that conductor isn't exposed. Thanks UltraHookedOnPhonix. The insulation is still intact. Changing out the grid stopper multiple times using solder wick caused that :( I...

Re: My 50 watt #183 with footswitchable FET build.

Very nice build Matt!! Looks like we use the exact same parts... :) Jonas, what do I need to understand this FET circuit. I have use Martin's document with the batteries and loved the result. Your numbers make me want to pull my chassis back out and tinker. I'd love some advise on what the targets ...

Re: My 50 watt #183 with footswitchable FET build.

Nice build Matt, keep it up! Sorry to hear about the FET circuit. I would put in a new e-lytic and hook it up to a breadboard for testing. Double-check all polarities. From the 150K/8K2 divider, expect to see around 16-17V. In my 183 I got the following voltages with a 4.32K Source resistor: B+5: 31...

Re: 2N5210 AF PREAMP/DRIVER NPN TO-92 50V TRANSISTOR

Hey Tony!

Have a look at Mouser part#: 512-BF256B

N-channel JFET @ $0.40 ea.

From a quick glance, it looks like it could work as a replacement for the 2N4416A with some minor tweaking.

I use 16AWG in my builds. For what it's worth, I think it's the same gauge the D-man uses.

With the Heyboer HTS-10359 tranny, I got very close to the real-deal values.
That's the transformer that I'm using in my current build. Glad to hear that the voltages are close. Are you pleased with the tone of your amp?
Yes. I haven't played it in a while but it's a monster!

Re: #183 5th Generation ODS Skyliner. Layout/Schematic discussion

I used the Magic Parts TF-130 for my BM build and just to echo what Steve said: don't use it for your #183 Talbany! Why? It's 640VCT whereas 183 was in the 680VCT range. I've attached a pic of my BM, TF-130 datasheet, and a viable replacement from Heyboer [I see you got there before me Matt!] Thank...

Re: 183 Build Report

The 1/2 watt NTE metal film resistors as well as the EL34 tubes are part of the mojo for this amp, this is what Dumble used. Some of the metal film resistors in the front end look like they may be Roederstein Resista? Yup. Roederstein MK3. Looks like the slope resistor (150K), two plate resistors (...

Re: 183 Build Report

Thanks Matt and Eric! Eric, your SSS #2 ain't to shabby either. Mucho skills there; an SSS is quite a beast to tackle. Matt, I wasn't too concerned with carbon and metal film placement. I only made sure to sprinkle em' in the right spots as per the 183 pics. The metal films was an assortment of KOA ...

That's #175. Used to belong to PRS. Andy Fuchs mentioned somewhere that it had Mercury Magnetics iron and sounded "shitty". :o

Re: Welagen Express build

Beautiful as always Jelle! When staying true to KF's building technique, one of the benefits of going from an ODS to an Express is that it is much more forgiving on the heater wire twist-count! Just give 'em a couple of overlaps and that should do ya fine! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to...
