Re: Standel Amplifier
Looks like the Voltage doubler power supply. I have a 6bq5 standel amp but newer than this one and used the PNP Black SS modules. All modules are missing. The caps in mine look exactly like this one with the big black diodes in a voltage doubler with those Orange Caps. It put out 360 volts DC. When ...

Re: Standel S-80
What tubes are in an S80 ? I have an old Standel that used SS modules for pream and tremolo but missing in the head and 6BQ5 output tubes with a 12ax7 phase driver. It uses a voltage doubler power supply and runs at 410 volts cathode Bias. It then uses a screen voltage of 150 volts on screens to kee...

Re: New Celestion G15-100
I like the topend. It’s smooth and sweet’ better than the d130 but the low end is limited compared to the d130 stiff cone and large alnico magnet. Overall it’s good but need to play it more. I need to breakin the speaker and see what happens. The weight difference helps with carrying the amp. I had ...

Re: New Celestion G15-100

Tuesday. It will need broken in but looking forward to trying one. I expected them to go for more $. Antique...

Re: Guitar Gallery Thread! Post 'em up!
Well 40 pluyears in a closet . I wanted a slide guitar and found a spray painted melody maker in a pawn shop. I added mahogany to the back to make a les Paul jr out of it back in the 70's and then never finished it and put it in the closet. Always loved Lesly West's tone on his les Paul jr . Sanded ...

Re: Vinyl for amp covering
You can use any vinyl but if you bump and tear, ding, whatever, the vinyl-cloth backing shows through. So if you use black , it should have a black cloth backing, If you go White , it should have a white backing. That way your amp wont have different color scuff and such. Looks nice longer.

Re: Voltage doubler no center tap
I have an old Standel with voltage doubler but center tap ground. I increased the caps from 50 uf to 100uf and the voltage went from 365 to 405 volts. I'm sure there is a limit but thats under full load. bigger caps will increase the B+. not sure why.

Luthierwnc, why the elevated heaters? I thought that was only needed with a CF. Does it reduce noise or something?

Re: please recommend a good alternative to "Tolex Glue"
I would by a quart first and do maybe a small cab before assuming its going to work great. Also if you have an air stapler and don't mind and or can hide the staples with baffle or back panel, you could use Elmers glue. Its just hard to hold tolex into place while the white glue is drying. So if you...

Re: Tiny Wiggle board
Thats a cool board. One thing. For the Vibrato to work you need to bias the tubes on the cold side to leave room for the modulating bias. I've thought about this as a 2 stage bias level. Cold bias for tremolo on and hotter bias for no tremolo. It could be incorporated in 1 board with 2 stage bias. J...
