Re: Bias voltage for EL84?

Totally misread that, yes it is 317vDC. Thanks for all your inputs!

Bias voltage for EL84?

Hi guys! I got an old Crate Vintage Club 30 and after doing inspection, only the chassis and transformer would be useful. Figured I'd make a new amp altogether after I junked the PCB. Been searching for schematics and for the most part, all the projects that I came across are cathode biased designs....

Marshall 1959 MKII build too fizzy

Hi guys! Is it normal for Marshall type circuits to be on the fizzy end of the spectrum?

Re: Switching from cascaded to parallel bright / dark channel?

Thanks! All the links are dead but at least you've directed me to another great forum! Tried my hand over lunch and this appears to work. Could I ask for a once over from you guys and let me know if this will work? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170627/1f57d0e77d15db73a6fd193f4735dbfe.jpg Sent f...

Thank you. Do you have a link to the said board?

Switching from cascaded to parallel bright / dark channel?

Hi! Just built a plexi super lead inspired circuit and I am loving it. Been doing more reading and I discovered that later Marshalls were essentially the bright circuit feeding the dark circuit in the preamp. I'd like to be able to switch between the two modes and I was wondering if you guys had a s...

Re: Trademark dispute - rj Guitars

I'm from the Philippines and yes, RJ Guitars is a brand of guitars being sold here in the PH. As far as I know it started of in the 80s as RAJ guitars, which eventually moved into the RJ brand in the 90s. Back then they had a workshop making their guitars but these days I think everything is subcont...

Sound clips from my build - feedback please!

Hi all; This has been a long standing project of mine and I wanted to ask for your thoughts on this build I made. Low plate resistors, and probably closer to 101/102 specs. Running it on a 1x12 EVM12S combo format. Thank you in advance for your comments! MH With a 1979 Strat: https://www.instagram.c...

Re: OD with cathode follower

Thanks for the responses guys. Given my current limitations, it seems that I would only be able to build one using 12AX7s. Would this design work (all tubes 12ax7 units):

V1a -> Vol + Tone - > V1b -> [switch] -> trim pot -> v2a -> gain -> v2b -> volume -> v3a recovery -> v3b CF

Re: OD with cathode follower

Hi! Would you happen to have any sound clips of this? I am considering to do another rebuild based on an ODS but with a cathode follower preceding the phase inverter just because the junk amp I got has an extra 12ax7. Am curious as to how it sounds like if I run a full ODS drive section (essentially...

Re: RE: Wiring Clean/OD DPDT toggle

Hi Marco, to me it sounds like a bad solder joint. I cannot explain why conduction is restored after hitting a chord, but I had the same thing with a pickup selector in a guitar. After resoldering the switch the issue was gone. Obviously the wiring in your 2nd pic has the advantage that the input o...

Wiring Clean/OD DPDT toggle

Hi guys; I currently wired up my build with a DPDT for the clean and OD switch and used this wiring schematic: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c136/tomhanzo/cutter.jpg However, one thing that I noticed is that whenever I switch back from OD to clean, the signal doesn't go through, i.e. it goes sil...

Using passive effects loops for guitar pedals

Hi guys! In the middle of a build now and I was thinking of doing a passive effects loop in this build, i.e. taps between preamp and PI but I was curious if this would work well with regular effects pedals. My rig is mostly Boss and some Digitech pedals here and there and I am not sure if 1) the out...

Tweed DEluxe style preamp into LTPI? Anyway one tried it?

Hello! I'm thinking of the next build I can do with the chassis and transformers at hand and I was wondering if I could create a tweed style preamp section going into a long tail phase inverter. Has anyone tried this? How did it sound?
