Re: Transformer Alignment
Can I know for sure without building the amp? I'm pretty sure this alignment should offer the same hum reduction since they are still 90 degrees out of alignment. Yes. Just place the transformers in the planned orientation, energize the primary of the power transformer (with other leads protected f...

Re: 2204 chassis deminsions
The chassis that Mojotone sells measures 27 inches wide by 6.5 inches deep by 2.5 inches high (686 x 165 x 63.5 mm). They say on their website that those are the original Marshall 2204 chassis dimensions. If you do a Google search you will see the dimensions on the Google search preview, but if you ...

Re: Marshall Superlead Normal Channel
Do you want it back to how it was or want to modify it to sound different? I'd want to fix what's broken before modifying it. Otherwise you're just modifying a poor foundation.

Re: Power transformer for tweed deluxe
I chose to go with the lower HV 290BX (US 120V primary). I ended up with a 375V B+1 and a plate voltage of 368V/368V on the JJ rectifier. Sounds great. That's cool! The 291bex is the 240v, updated version of your transformer. I should end up with similar voltages : ) In terms of "sag" and overall b...

Re: Building a kit from Mod Electronics
That's a pretty cool kit. Very reasonably priced. Love the point to point layout. My first amp was point to point. AX84 High Octane. I'm staying with turret boards now, much cleaner. Glad you got it working.

Good call Sluckey. That sure lines up with what he's reporting. 120V across 240V taps will do exactly that.

Re: Component type choices (Novice question)
What Phil said is my same experience. To add to that, I avoid ebay and Amazon for buying the cheap resistors and other parts. I trust Digikey, Mouser, and the amp parts vendors much more (Hoffman Amps, Tube Depot, Amplified parts, etc). There's a really good YouTube video comparing capacitor types a...

Re: Building a kit from Mod Electronics
Agree with all of above. Those are really good instructions. You shouldn't have any difficulty. If questions pop up about the theory of the amp etc, I'm sure the gurus here will help.

Lexington lab band on YouTube. Pretty darn good covers. Guitar work is session quality. Well all of it is pretty close to session quality.

Re: Where does tone come from in a guitar?
Interesting test. The actual guitar seemed to have a little more shimmer in the high range with the open chords. More high end.
