Re: Why is a single channel amp inherently better than a multi?

Anytime you have more than one channel in an amp, you've had to compromise something, somewhere. You can't optomize two different channels at the same time. One, or both, must suffer. Try an ODS. Which channel on the ODS do you think was compromised on? Not that it sounds bad...but that's not the po...

Re: Gibson Factory Raided at Gun point

Did you read the article you linked? Do you completely trust the political interpretations of Rolling Stone magazine? Do you believe they are completely impartial and apolitical? I stopped reading Rolling Stone when they veered off into movies, celebrities, and politics. I stopped watching MTV when...

Re: Gibson Factory Raided at Gun point

yeah screw em they got the cash. First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. The...

Re: equality

I would imagine we will be seeing them doing this to several others who are also using illegal woods to build instruments... I would imagine we won't. This has nothing to do with wood or the environment...in spite of the spin you'll see in those directions by every mass-media article on the subject...

Re: Plate voltage trimmer pots

The cathode resister is a great place to tweak. For example, go from 1.5k to 1.2k with a 500 ohm trimmer in series. Adjust the trimmer to give you a total of 1.5k and go from there. There's usually a sweet spot to find.

Yep. One end to a B+ of working voltage, the other end to a VOM set to read voltage. Depending on the internal resistance of the VOM, you shouldn't see anything more than a fraction of a volt. Those blue-drop caps are actually pretty good in terms of reliability and being non-microphonic.

Re: Ben Harper Dumble "Collection"

The comment about the big guy couldn't make 2 amps that sounded the same, is quite a profound statement, because a lot of builders. myself included, are trying to acheive a "clone" of some of HAD's best sounding amps. Hmm. Yep. And I challenge anybody to make two ODS-style amps to sound exactly the...

Re: Franchesca Schematic

I had added the IN4007s to an old 6G6-B Bassman years ago and wound up taking them out. It wasn't that they affected the tone per-se, but my impression was that it affected the feel and playability of the amp. Seemed to make it stiffer and less responsive although I can't really say why. I'm curiou...

Re: 715 Orange Drops in Dumbles?

Mark, you need to check the layouts that Tone (Talbany) has been kind enough to put in the files section. Its all there. IMO, there's no need to ask qustions about layout info which is readily available. :? 8) Just pointing out it would have taken less effort to simply have answered the question.

Just remember, don't ever let it see more than 25 volts, or the FET will start to fail in unpredictable ways, which will drive you insane. Kind Regards, --Mark Now THAT is a tip worth remembering. HiFi and audio engineers have been debating the differences in sonic quality between these two types of wires for years..Ken Fisher being one of them Many point out that braid-stranded wire is preferable due to its increased surface area... ...which would tend to point to a skin effect.
