Re: Purchased completely gone-through '72 Traynor YBA-1 - DOA
But for complex things like customizing an amp's voice? if he cant do that hes not much of a tech. sit down with a player for 2 hours, swap parts with a schemo in hand - I wouldnt ever take anything to this guy even if he can fix 'simple sh*t'. 70$ for a guitar rewire - thats cheap, I charge 80 - a...

Re: Purchased completely gone-through '72 Traynor YBA-1 - DOA
looks like you have the advice. I should add...Ive built a number of these - an easy build - great amp for keys like old wurlis/hammond - did you know the YBA 1A is a leslie knock-off? exact! any decent tech should be able to find the problem in less than 20 minutes - likely less than 2 minutes thes...

Re: Vinyl for amp covering
Id say dont do it.
I tried years ago - seems a cheapo alternative - but the stuff gets scraped and dinged and a year or so later your prize looks like it just fell out of a hobo's pickup.
vinyl: 10$ material and a lifetime of sucking
tolex: 26$ material and lasts forever.
up to you.

Re: Aluminum vs Steel chassis
Is Aluminum not better in regards to not passing magnetic flux from the PT? yeah, you can build from both, and have a good sounding amp - but I like the electrical properties of magnetic fields better for alum than steel. plus easier to machine. fuchs has it right on with what Ive seen/heard and te...

I alwasy find it funny when these new-agers talk about recycling like its some new discovery. for the rest of us we called it growing up poor - use everything till its done, then fix it and use it again. lucky I dig old furniture - I got stuff worth multi-K's - and the younger folks dont want anythi...

Re: Fender now selling expesive caps
Mojo's Dijon film caps, and their PIO caps made in Brazil. I use those mojo PIO caps when I want a 'period' PIO there - good for guitar wiring or pre-amp caps in a fender style build. get the polarity correct on the install tho. really good in the guitar. I tried about everything, and those mojo PI...
