Re: Electrolytic caps
Anybody got experience with comparing electrolytics in the power supply for best tone? Is there one brand that sonically outshines the others? I’m getting ready to recap my 73’ 100 watt Marshall and want to get as close to the old Daly’s as possible. Thanks in advance! Hi Swankmotee, I had an email...

Re: [Question] Marshall Major 200 Watts
To further complicate things, not all pig were created equally and most surviving specimens were modded at some point. I’ve seen them with both C and EI core transformers (and combinations thereof). Best information I could find on the transformers is this bit, shared by Barry of Ampmaker I believe:...

Re: All 7 pin tube amp
Beautiful built right there!
Very interested in doing some 7-pin project myself.\
The EC91/6AQ4 is a high mu single triode, anyone use these before?
Edit: For a pentode pre, how about the 12AU6? Probably one of the few 7 pin tubes that have been used in guitar amp design (Kay, Silvertone)

Re: Smoke em if you got em
Hi guys, sorry it took me so long to get back to this. In the attachment below you'll find the test results I promised (can share the .xlsx file as well) We tested 6 types of 47nF capacitors, 3 of each type (where available), at 3 different frequencies. Test results include: Capacitance, dissipation...

Re: peavey deuce transformers what to build
I wouldn’t just assume HAD reused the old Peavey ‘choke’resistor. It looks like this one might be 500R @ 10W while the Peavey resistor would have been 400R @ 10W Here’s another example of an Overdrive Special that, I believe, uses Peavey Iron. I have it down as being #80 but I’m not sure that’s corr...

Re: peavey deuce transformers what to build
Shouldn’t that actually give you a slightly lower voltage? You 'only' have 370Vac over that single tap, vs 390 with you other amp. That should give you about 370*1.41= 522 Vdc (minus a small drop) unloaded. According to Merlin Blencowe that should give you about 370*1.3= 481 Vdc under fully loaded c...

Sorry for the late reply.
Don’t know when they discontinued tropifol line but I don’t remember ever seeing any with 70’s codes

Re: Smoke em if you got em
I get what you’re saying, that’s exactly why I wanted to do some test, see if there’s actually any magic to them, or to any of the others for that matter. Always nice to have some actual data to back it up (might be bit before I get around to testing those caps) Not sure there’s actually that much m...

Re: Smoke em if you got em
Just for the record, I’m not claiming these to be any better than new production or vintage caps. They’re just nice to have around for restauration work or when you’re going for that vintage look. I have an LCR meter here, so I’d be happy do a comparison with say, some Mustards, Sozo’s and modern 6P...

Re: Smoke em if you got em
Hi, it’s actually me selling these caps, so I thought I’d chime in here. I can confirm the leads have not been cleaned, this is how I got them. In fact, none of the bigger Wima (with the thicker leads) I’ve had showed any signs of corrosion. They were still in the original sealed packs, so that prob...

Re: VOX AC15 [JMI] Replica Layout and schematic
Many thanks for sharing those layouts Turret!
I've spent quite some time collecting info on the old Vox AC’s but never could find anything that nice (or even close to it really).
Really great stuff!

Re: Good place to find Fender Amp clone plans/layouts/schematics
http://ampwares.com/ probably has the most complete archive of vintage and modern fender amps around, not a bad place to start.
Good luck!
