Re: New Express build!!! Some troubleshooting required.

I built a 50 watt plexi amp a while back.. Brand new tubes {tungsol EL34} Fired the amp up, and it smoked the socket in an instant, had to replace the socket.. Bad tube right out of the box. suppose to have been a tested matched pair bla bla.. If you replace the socket, be sure to put in a "known" go...

Re: Multi Caps in Express Clone

The grounds on the caps on that amp were separated between the 2 cap cans to different locations before the bottom was put on.

Re: Rocket preamp with Express PI and power section?

I think they call "Big Bottle Rocket" probably look deep enough you'll find trem or reverb rockets too.. Not much has not been tried :Depends on your taste, you may like it better
than the EL84 version.

Re: Hall VVR3 fizzy sound

did you add the cap and resistor on the input,if not at low voltages the amp can sputter or lose signal? And lead dress or where you mount the VVR can make a difference. If you run wires to or from it,so move them around and see which makes it better or worse.

NTE [rebrand] or Sprague,RCA,etc.. 2% "flameproof"they use to sell them in packs on display racks in old electronics stores....
could be others that are similar. good resistors. probably look them up on ebay.

Re: Trainwreck Express Head Cabinet step by step

For years,i used the aluminum sheets from this place[link below]. A bit thicker than roof flashing, but thinner than the bud bottoms. About perfect. Plus they can be used for making front and back plates for other amp stuff. Different colors etc..

Re: Trainwreck Express Head Cabinet step by step

I think it depends on what you use as a bottom plate, its thickness, and if you use cork or felt on the bottom of that. If no cork and a thin bottom plate, the opening could be a hair shy of 2 1/4 maybe more like 2 1/8th or hit in between 2- 1/8th and 2-1/4. As mentioned, depends on what you will be ...

Re: Trainwreck Express Head Cabinet step by step

One problem with the cab layout is the opening for the chassis. It shows 2" you have to have more than that for the wiggle room of a bottom plate etc.

I used one in the last Plexi build, and I really liked that power transformer. Just didn't like the long wait to get it. :)

Re: Available, another vintage variant of the Stancor A-3801 OT?

There are a few that are the same as the Stancor A 3801. Merrit made one, Also Thordarson 24s57 I believe is the number, just going off memory..:) I'd have to look up number info and cross them. But some are exactly the same, with different names or Brand names. I think Triad also made one.

Re: Rocket Speakers Suggestion

There should be many clips of Rockets on youtube with various cabs and speakers. Lots of great speakers out there today to choose from. Here are a few done with a 4x12 with greenbacks. Using different guitars. These are more cranked than clean settings.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHabPPrXe9M h...

Re: Authentic custom Plexi Panels??

The 18 watters had both, an early font, and later font. Depends on what year the 18 watter was. Or same with other Marshall amps of that era.Slight differences.
