Re: C-lator hum

I gather the heater leads are the tails of the windings, and when you clipped them you did not remove the enamel? Lesson learned, I guess! Yes that's correct. Lesson learned. Finally time to let this one get some time. June '64! Now here's one thing that don't need improvement. Made right the first...

Re: C-lator hum

They are open, as in infinite Ohms... Can't believe they are burnt. That should have shown. So somewhere in the coil there is breakages, right? Too hard handling of the wires? Did I pull them too hard? I did handle them carefully. Very strange, this is first time in my life to hear that.. ok heater...

I am 100 % sure that the head of that bolt did not touch the top of the chassis. There is at least 5 mm clearance. But thanks for the suggestion.

Yes will email them. Must be a defective unit, I hope.

bepone wrote: Sat Apr 06, 2024 11:59 am strange that heaters are burnt, maybe integrated fuse inside? the other voltages are live?
No other fuses inside than the external mains fuse. The HV is live, 135 VAC. I did disconnect the PT screw from the chassis before reading those voltages.

Re: C-lator hum

Yes I had the cover on before I fired it up. But I am 100 % sure that the mounting bolt was not in contact with the lid.

I'll measure the resistance between both 6.3V windings. How should I interpret the results?

I did. Also unsoldered them and measured "in the air": 0 VAC.

Re: C-lator hum

With cold cathodes there will be no high voltage current draw to drop the voltage along the string. Seems like you had it connected properly. The question is how did you lose both 6.3V windings. Any funny smells or other evidence? No nothing. No fuses burnt, no smells, no fires (!). Seems to me the...

Re: C-lator hum

Well, it was fun as long as it lasted. I cut the leads and tidied it up. Thought it looked good. Only thing changed was connecting the HV wire and heaters wires from the other side of the board, and moving the first ground to the middle of the chassis. Tried to power it up. First thing I see is ther...

Re: C-lator hum

In comparison, there's "only" 400 mA on the 1x stock one.

Works great! Also has two 6,3 VACs. I only used one and blinded the other. Maybe both can be useful if building a stereo version with two tubes, where there's a need for more current?
