Re: Tinnitus - anybody suffering? Any solutions?

As with Structo I have tinnitus of very high freq which came on about 3 years ago. Medical advice I've had has suggested that often the condition is neurological, generated in the brain. As age or environmental factors cause slight hearing loss the brain compensates by generating the missing stimulu...

Re: Favorite guitar solo?

<snip> Hunter/Wagner Sweet Jane from LR's R-N-R Aminal (intentionally spelled incorrectly) There's plenty more but I will have to stop here for now. I transcribed that, uploaded it to Ultimate Guitar website, been mega downloads of it. You'll need guitar pro or tux guitar to view it. Yeah I know, t...

Re: Merlin's standby - reduced heater voltages

I'd say PTC means +ve temperature coefficient thermistor.

Both (negative) NTC and PTC, depending on topology, can be used for surge protection.

Merlin's standby - reduced heater voltages

I like Merlin's Standby arrangement, simple and seemingly effective. See www.valvewizard.co.uk However I came across this exchange (in of all places Ultimate guitar.com - a place usually full of complete drivel) [ http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1294336 ] In it a reply to a pos...

KT120 anyone?

New tube, 60W plate dissipation. Grid No 2 dissipation not so great though, at 8W it's still similar to KT88, so this tube may be aimed at clean high power without overdriving it. http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=289955 Apologies if it's already been posted , I haven't been in the garag...

Re: Healthcare

Well when I grew up on a farm the governement was paying the farmers to seal the grain bins on long contracts and put the land into crop reduction program (CRP). Govt. possibly sick of paying agricultural subsidies? There isn't any such thing as a free market in world agriculture, take it from some...

Re: Healthcare

Thankfully, in my country it is still about health. The first question we're asked if we turn up to hospital is "where does it hurt?" and not "are you insured?". edit: BTW, unless things have changed recently without my notice, visitors to this country also receive free care should they be involved ...

Re: Healthcare

From an external perspective I've wondered why it took the US so long. There are many things to admire about the US health system, uppermost being its ability to generate cutting edge technology, but from the outside looking in, universal delivery of care to its citizens isn't its greatest feature. ...

Re: Power Tube Biasing and Headroom

Well I guess if it's one of those discussions on headroom (including that which is called headroom by some but actually isn't headroom), sort of discussions... :D But Structo's OP confuses a couple of things in my view. He's seems to be seeking a relationship between Bell curves of tube performance ...

Re: Power Tube Biasing and Headroom

Andy I think dave is right on the nail. Headroom is the allowable input range before nominal distortion, nothing to to with actual volume but a lot to do with bias condition. No reason 1W amps can't have higher headroom than 100W amps. In class AB Push pull headroom will decrease as bias is made hot...

Re: Making holes in foam rubber for tube storage?

I've used razor blades to cut foam to shape for custom guitar cases. Horrible process, I don't recommend it!
Suggest you ask those who sell you the foam for a better way.
