Re: Bad Cat Deluxe 20
Have a look at the Top Hat Deluxe (& Royale) which I believe are very similar to the Bad Cat Deluxe.

Re: Spitfire vs Marshall 18 watt
They are very similar and for identical builds next to each other, you might not hear a difference for a big part of the control settings IMO. The Spitfire is more Vox AC15 with a bit less gain, more jangle and the 18Watt is more classic rock but can end up being a big ragged and fuzzy which some li...

Check out Valve Wizards book or the link here at http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard2/OtherStuff.html for ideas.

A quick Google produced this link at http://mirror.stones-amp-inn.de/ with one Komet file.

Re: 5D3 build.
The 5C3 has feedback whereas the 5D3 doesn't. Also they have slightly different types of paraphase inverters. From memory the 5D3 had better balance (or worse maybe).

Re: Top Hat Club -is it any more than a lightning with 6V6's ?
I then had to double my PI resistor to 44k and all is well. My understanding of modifying an EL84 LTP amp to run 6V6's, is that the PI tail resistor should be changed from the 47k EL84 value to about 22k to increase the voltage swing from the PI to compensate for the higher level of drive needed by...

Re: Why K.F. did´nt double the 1st stage?
I had often thought about this too. I was reading the excellent Valve Wizards book recently, and he pointed out that when using a parralled input stage, the frequency response tails off rapidly when the guitar volume is turned down. Perhaps this is why KF didn't parallel up the first stage.

Re: Top Hat Club -is it any more than a lightning with 6V6's ?
Why not install VVR power scaling on the output tubes? and a proper dropping string for the PI and Preamp tubes. In my experience it's better to scale the PA&PI in LTP types of amps. Using a VVR is always going to be a compromise of some sort, but from my own testing, keeping the pre-amp section at...

Re: Top Hat Club -is it any more than a lightning with 6V6's ?
Do you think I may have dropped the screens too much ? The amp's seems a little down on grunt. My plates are at 377v, screens at 335v. The other nodes are within +/-2v of the hand drawn schematic. Too late tonight. I may try to raise the screens and drop the next nodes with string adjustments. I'm ...

Re: Top Hat Club -is it any more than a lightning with 6V6's ?
Gee, I tried the pot on the ground leg of the divider without adding the 220k resistor to the PI and it adds quite a mid hump as you increase the gain. I will try adding the 220K and report back. I'm not sure why increasing the divider should increase the mids. Update: Perhaps the divider is having...

Re: Top Hat Club -is it any more than a lightning with 6V6's ?
I have been enjoying my Royale build but what I found was that the amp really only comes alive when the new gain control I tried was set on full. With that in mind I rewired the divider before the PI to increase the minimum and maximum gain to approximate from the Matchless value to a bit more that ...

Re: Top Hat Club -is it any more than a lightning with 6V6's ?
Hey Gee, Have you tried the bootstrapped style MV at the PI? You basically replace the 1M R's with a dual 1MA pot. Feed the pots from the 10n caps, feed grids through 10k R's from the wipers, the cold side of the pots get connected to junction of Rk and tail R. You might like this style MV for some...
