Re: Ga-5 farty when cranked
I have a similar amp (5F1 clone). that I use weekly with a Lollar P90 equipped Ibanez. Off course I never run it past 6 for Jazz. It's farty alright when cranked. However, don't crank it! unless you want to modify it a la 70s Marshall preamps. Tweed amps just dont sound good when cranked (and IMO ne...

Re: We need to relearn listening and get Hifi back in our lifes!
I don't follow on the Hiraga, mono right?, what's the application? Through-hole PCB is about my speed for assembly, lol! The Hiraga is dual Mono => Stereo and application is for driving the L810s to sonic nirvana. The Computer Audiophile server with the special (SOtM USB EXP) USB-card is IMO better...

L710. Great set of speakers you've got! I've got a pair of (Braun =ADS) L810 speakers. IMO they are pretty audiophile. Especially after upgrading the crossover capacitors - in line with respectively the treble tweeter and the mid dome - with Jantzen Superior Z caps (http://www.parts-express.com/bran...

Re: AN Wonderland/JM 100w layout
A small pot (eg. 10k) in series with the feedback resistor, gives a nice "loudness control" for low level playing.

Re: A Collection of #124 Information (Schematics, Layout, etc.)
Mr. Dumble also used 150k slope with .05 mid caps. If your after that Robben ford tone go with skyline. If you want more of a Carlso tone go with the classic. The most important thing to do is to keep your caps and resistors to the same type Mr. Dumble used ....Or that you tweak the caps and resist...

Re: #124 CAP QUESTION
Sven, now several people have tried to explain to you, that we are nice people at a nice forum. I hope this site will live for many years and therefore I welcome new forumites, who have the same passion for amps as the rest of us. One of our long time friends at this forum, "Structo" alias Tom, suff...

Re: We need to relearn listening and get Hifi back in our lifes!
I'm a chicken when it comes to tube stereo hifi. Even thought I love acoustic jazz from the 50s and 60s, I'm a little afraid that tubes could be a little too polite and not really able to deliver modern blues and solid rock. When we tuned my buddy's Dynaco ST70 knock off (with improved front end in...

Re: #124 CAP QUESTION
Sven checkout my 102 build there's a layout Martin did for All rock and no jazz. M Where is that sch.? I mean no offense to anyone, but I find it interesting that guys can get a full amp built and working without the basic knowledge to modify the circuit for rock only. I don't understand that thoug...

Re: We need to relearn listening and get Hifi back in our lifes!
rp, (or anyone), can you recommend a DAC for about $100? I tried the Dragonfly, made sure it was the one designed for computers and not mobile devices, and it was literally like throwing a blanket over my speaker when compared with the stock sound card in my budget friendly office depot laptop. Aft...
