reducing cathode cap can help on marshall, but I haven't tried it on my express. have anyone else tried it? did it result in tighter bass?

One other angle on this. Though the Express circuit is basically a 35 watt amp or so, the output transformer in the Ceriatone version is pretty stout. More like 50 watt Marshall iron. When I ABed my original Express to a Ceriatone the Ceriatone was definately louder. I'd say if my original Express ...

12at7 in PI/V3 works very well. these are cheaper than 12ax7s as well.

yes, I liked the ecc81 in V3. the 5751 in V2 was ok, but not great. too smooth for me. not aggressive enough
