Re: Need help creating Bias Supply from HT
Slucky, Your schematic helped me in a practical sense with my current project. Your amp is first one that I’ve seen with the parallel preamps - I’ve had that same idea for years. Too much for me to pull off at this time…but with this schematic I’ll be very tempted. It seems like it would provide tre...

Re: Need help creating Bias Supply from HT
ViperDoc, Thanks for covering many bases there. If I understand correctly, if I added a fuse on the HOT 120V PT Primary winding there would then be a fuse both before and after the main power switch. Ten Over, Thanks for the schematic. I see the capacitors are bumped-up and it looks like you made so...

Need help creating Bias Supply from HT
Hello, I'm in the planning stage of building an amp with the foundation being the 5F6-A. I've got a great power transformer that I'm going to use, however it doesn't have a bias supply tap. I have Merlin's book on both preamps and power supplies, but I'm still struggling to understand the precise st...

Re: Need Help with Combo Amp Transformers and Layout
This chassis fits the cabinet, so I expect to use it. The photo of completee chassis gives me inspiration - that's the route I'll take. Thank you.

Need Help with Combo Amp Transformers and Layout
Hey everyone, it's been a while since I tried to build an amp, but I've made a New Year's resolution to build one in 2024. A number of years ago, I purchased a new 1 x 12 combo amp cabinet and empty chassis from S2 Amps - a circuit board wasn't included. I think S2 used this combo for a 6V6 Deluxe v...

Re: Matching the leads in a Thordarson OT to a Ceriatone 36W RP amp
Thanks for helping out. In another post in this forum, I read that 6K6 would be okay to use so I thought I'd give a try. I'm not bound to it though, and I had also thought to use 3K3 as suggested since that is closer to the 4K most often for a 4 x el84 amp. I just rechecked some old email messages. ...

Matching the leads in a Thordarson OT to a Ceriatone 36W RP amp
I have a 36 watt RP 4xel84 Certiatone amp that works fine. I also have an old NOS Thordarson T-17S13 Output Transformer rated at 34 watts that I’d like to try in place of the existing transformer. I could use a little help matching the old transformer data sheet info on each lead wire to the amp. Th...

that's a build I'm currently planning
I've been mostly a lurker here and have just one build completed - a scratch build of a tweed princeton 5F2A circuit. I'm currently planning a 2x7591 Rocket build. I have the transformers, tubes, and a finished 1x12 combo cabinet together with a pre-drilled chassis. My power transformer is a stancor...

Re: Top Mount or Bottom Mount sockets?
Top mount it shall be. My first build sounds great, but the chassis is ugly, so I can't expect to improve much with regards to that at this point.

Top Mount or Bottom Mount sockets?
I've only built one amp and I think I used top mount sockets. I'm about to purchase some sockets and I'm curious why there is even a choice or preference for one style over the other. I can only assume experienced builders have differing preferences. Why build with top mount? Why build with bottom m...

I've thought of a bass amp or a stereo
or a stereo bass amp?
I don't have much use for that many watts and I don't have a bass amp.
Or a guitar amp where I want a lot of headroom out of the output transformer.

colors are poor on mine too
Indoors, both the brown and black wires look black
In sunlight, the doubled-up wire looks brown
I have a second A-3802, and for both I would guess that the doubled-up wire is brown based on what I saw in sunlight.

Here is what is on the Instruction Sheet
This is likely too late to matter to the orginal post, but I happen to have an A-3802 with the Instruction Sheet. Here is what is on the Instruction Sheet: Primary Connections: PP (3,800 ohms) Plate - Brown B plus - Red Plate - Blue PP (3,300 ohms) Plate - Red-Green B plus - Red Plate - Red-Yellow S...

Can you connect to two seperate speaker jacks?
All of the schematic show two transformers connected to a single speaker jack. Can you connect each transformer to its own speaker jack? For example, with a parallel 6v6 single-ended amp, could you connect 6v6#1 to single-ended output transformer #1 which connects to speaker #1, and also connect 6v6...
