Re: Who likes/has EV SROs?
My SRO is a recone, originally, the speaker was in a 70's Bassman cab, (see the wear on the cover). Orange County Speaker reconed it for me, probably 7-8 years ago. I would like to find a SRO 12 for my DR, but age has turned them into precious metal, it seems! I am about to send off a 60's EM series...

Re: Who likes/has EV SROs?
I have a 15" SRO in my "Twin" clone, and love the sound. The same amp previously had 2 EVM-12S, and an EVM-15L, but the SRO is the sound I like! (I also tried a K130, that was in another cab, it too sounded great!)

Re: Patriotic Bandit!
I have used Weldwood for years, and no problems. I tried some of the "non-toxic" contact cement once, but it is really slow to cure, so I went back to the smelly stuff. Using a spray on the tolex itself sure is easier, and I think I will use that process when I do my next recover. I think the white ...

Tolex!
I had trouble with the white, when I brushed the contact cement on, it would (melt?) it. Finally only put the cement on the cab, and sprayed 3M 77 on the tolex, and that worked.

Re: Rawcabs!
I haven't been able to play it in cathode bias yet, (I need to get the bias a little lower), but I did play it Saturdady for several hours in fixed bias, and it sounds great! I let a couple of other guitar players play through it, and one, (who plays a rectoverb), commented how "full" it sounded.

Re: Rawcabs!
I left the baffle unpainted to give the grill a lighter shade. Thought it would make a better contrast to the brown sides/back.

Rawcabs!
I couldn't find any decent wood to build a cab for my 5E3 clone, but found a guy on the bay who sold me a cab for a reasonable price. I was amazed when it came in, not a knot in it! (I covered it with tolex anyway).

I haven't tried with a tube amp yet, but I have had good luck with SS amps, really more noticeable bottom!

Re: Insulating a Thiele TL806 cabinet ?????
Geeze is right on with the resonant frequency idea. I once was installing insulation in a cab while I had music playing, (fairly loudly), in the same room. When I stuck my head into the speaker hole, it would almost knock you out! I suspect it was the fundamental frequency that was getting reinforced.

Re: Insulating a Thiele TL806 cabinet ?????
I have built several EV TL designed cabinets with great results. I have used paper backed fiberglass insulation, and vinyl backed fiberglass insulation, both glued, and stapled in place. I have also used both dense foam, and cotton matting material that was glued, and stapled. I do calk all the seam...
