Re: Robben Ford!

Good show last night at the Aladdin! Would have liked to have heard him play more. Real tasty drummer he's got there.

Re: Quinn SDO-Reverb 183/102

Measure both sides of the PI trim, adjust to 7-9 AC volts apart, pwr amp being the prodominemt side. We're really hijacking this thread in a way, as there are other threads that discuss the PI adjustment in detail. But at the risk of adding to the hijack... As I was doing the method that I describe...

Re: Quinn SDO-Reverb 183/102

I have an externally-accessible 10-turn PI trimmer on my amp. I got some white heatshrink, opened up the amp, got a few likely PI tubes and adjusted the multiturn trimmer for AC balance. Then I marked the heatshrink for # of turns to balance point and #DC volts off the tube is. Then put that on te t...

So do you just keep this box in the D-lator loop as a way to roll of highs?

Re: I put 25uF at cathode of V1A and....

Not sure if there would be a pop or not, but you could have a relay switch in/out a second capacitor(s) on the V1 cathodes, such that you have higher values for clean and lower ones for overdrive. I thought about doing that for mine, but honestly I've got ample bass on the clean channel of my dual-K...

Beg pardon. I thought I remembered him being accused of making a faux pas. You're absolutely right, nobody actually said "shame on him."

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Re: 59 Fender Bassman with Dumble La Tostada mod

Jeez... you guys really know how to clear a room. I was hoping he'd post some clips at least, and talk about knowing HAD, but no, you gotta run him by calling names. I think I'll go back to 2nd grade where this behavior is expected. Gotta agree here. The OP was trying to ask some questions, but did...

Re: Robben and Michael McDonald Tracking

Man, I made it through the whole set of videos just now. That was really a cool window into their creative process recording. One thing that struck me was Ford's serious humility in asking about his tone and playing and how it was coming across. I'm a little surprised that he's not more opinionated ...

Re: Dumble Clone Break-In Issues

Although I've only had experience breaking in one amp, the magnitude of the changes you seem to describe is way over what I experienced. The part about the clean channel not cleaning up initially, in particular, caught my eye. Definitely not my experience.

Re: Tele pick-up overwound

I've got question guys, I've changed strings from 10-52 to 11-54 on my Tele, and I like them, but I've got problem with setting the scale right, I've got nearly C on 12 fret of B string... Someone suggested me changing bridge, from classic (3 saddles) to modern 6 saddles. Now I'm a bit confused abo...

I sometimes had some trouble getting the amp dialed in. It was like I would have an unreal tone going for a week, then I would lose it somehow and not be feeling the amp.
I'm glad it wasn't just me! I had the same experience.

Re: Why do you like Dumble clean tones?

I was just watching Robben play Freedom. It sort of embodies that tone that I chase. Sweet cleans, slightly overdriven, then just full on overdrive. Check it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRil3JBW35c -Brent Nice! Is he on the OD channel the whole time, just cleaning up the tone with the volume k...

Learn from my fail: before spending 45 minutes substituting tubes in every socket more than once to figure out what is causing the strange static underneath bass notes, then plugging into a mixer and finding it there, too, thereby determining it must be something in both of your main gigging guitars...
