Re: Signal resistor type

So I ordered Vishay resistors from mouser, some look as expected, light blue and normal size for 1 watt, and some are tiny, the size of a 1/4 watt. The package and data sheet clearly state 1W so I’m confident they’re correct. I have everything I need for the preamp in the standard size, but the PI p...

Re: AA electronics PCB build

Good catch on the PI balance trimmer GAStan. I got the trimmer in the mail today and realized what I'd done. Not a problem, these boards handle desoldering very well.

Re: AA electronics PCB build

I guess there’s interest judging from the views, but not enough info to comment. As I move forward I hope there’s more interest. A big faux pa, I ordered axial filter caps instead of radial. Returning them to mouser will cost too much so if anyone needs 8 47uF/350v axials ping me. I tend to miss com...

AA electronics PCB build

I decided to rebuild the Bluesmaster I build several years ago. I’ve never been totally happy with it and when I saw these PCBs from AA I thought I’d give it a go. I recently did the same thing with my Super Reverb build and I’m happy with the results. These PCBs are well designed and good quality, ...

Re: Signal resistor type

You guys are funny, I should come here more often.

My challenge was finding a vendor who stocked KOA of the values I needed, seems simple, but in the end I ordered Vishay's from AES.

Re: Signal resistor type

Thx Dan. I actually found that thread, and I appreciate all your hard work. It left my head spinning. I've used KOA before and like them, so maybe I'll grab some for the plates and see how it sounds. The good news is, these boards are built so solid you can desolder and resolder with almost no issues.

Signal resistor type

Hi folks, it’s been awhile since I put together a Dumble style amp, I’m at it again. 10 years ago I used Vishay RN65 for plates and Xicon carbon film for everything else, cathodes, signal chain, etc. The RN65s weren’t all that when I last used them, and I’m looking for a consensus on what folks are ...

Re: Super reverb build, vibrato doesn’t work

Well scratch this…I shouldn’t just read the component value and measure it, I should check the schematic to make sure I have the right value first, had a .01 where a .02 was called for. That said, the trem worked but was very fast, unusable fast. I upped the ,02uF to .047 uF then.1 uF to get it unde...

Yes, I shorted the Jack with a jumper and the light comes on.

Super reverb build, vibrato doesn’t work

Hi folks. I re-built a Super Reverb using a PCB from AA Electronics out of the UK. Originally this was a 20 year old (maybe) Weber kit and some off the components were questionable quality. I decided that instead of using the original board and replace all the components, I’d try this PCB. FWIW the ...

Re: Deluxe Reverb, one channel, no tremolo

Ok, I’ll agree with that. I felt they were needed, but maybe not everyone does.

Either way, this is a great approach to a classic design. I don’t have use for the normal channel or the tremolo, so it suits my needs perfectly.

Re: Deluxe Reverb, one channel, no tremolo

Well, without the bass pot connection the bass control was ineffective. Yes, “need” is a strong word. As for the reverb plate. My build was humming like crazy until I moved it, now it’s very quiet, so I’d say that’s important.

Re: Deluxe Reverb, one channel, no tremolo

This is a great thread on a great amp. I had a Princeton type chassis with an amp in it I didn’t like, so I decided to use this layout and schematic, I’m glad I did. I have the same xformers as in the schem. I fabricated the board, and the bias supply board was already in there so it was an easy bui...

Re: What happens now?

IMHO, the main thing that passed away when Alexander passed, was his ears, and his ability to connect sound with physics.

RIP Dr. D. I hope the folks in heaven appreciate your talent.
