Re: Clover-Amp from Italy still building amps

Yes, they are building again, I met Sergio at a guitar fair two weeks ago and it was showcasing their amps.

Re: Overdrive Gain question.

Regarding ODSs I wonder how many owners actually use power amp to generate their distortion sounds in order to put the PI into the gain equation... ? Anyway "gain" is not a universally well defined concept. If you mean "maximum overall voltage gain possible from input to speaker" bluesmaster should ...

Re: Two Rocks #102 Replica

... Hello Guy The amp is at least 10 years old and was constructed before Two Rock sold the company. IIRC the amp was constructed specifically for Robben to use as a backline rental so it would make some sense for them to try and get as close as possible to the sound of 102.. I cannot say for sure ...

I just set it where I like it...

(in my amps it's accessible directly from under chassis)

Re: HAD's choice of bias on 6L6 in ODS

The OD side had so much clarity and command - no fizz but lotsa nice OD clarity - probably less intermodulation? Yes and no, biasing colder actually increases xover distortion a little in power amp which is a cause of IMD. But that's not that bad at all considering such an imperceptible IMD increas...

Re: HAD's choice of bias on 6L6 in ODS

Since CBS acquisition Fender always does it...

more headroom and a cleaner sound

the only thing meant to be overdriven in a ODS gain structure is V2b

Re: Overdrive Special Still Not the Perfect Amp!

..The ODS is IMO not the perfect design!!... I agree 100% but IMO the perfect design simply doesn't exist... the ODS to my needs is the "best compromise design" I know. Lots of amps are way better than ODS delivering a single task but it would be impractical for lots of people to carry around, mana...

Re: question about power scaling

I like a level control before the phase inverter and I only scale the power tubes... Hi John I see your point and almost agree with you but that way I end up with too much negative bias shift with the power tubes and the annoying crossover distortion this causes. I think PI headroom should be limit...

Re: ODS lowplate vs highplate

I can tweak both kind to sound almost the same and in fact I actually do.

As a result my bandmates and friends tell me that they perceive the high-plate to be more "fusion" sounding while the low-plate sounds more "blues-rock".

Jazz mode (or modified Jazz modes) are fantastic if you play jazz... (I mean if you go hollow body, neck pickup, tone rolled of...)

Re: Change in Sound Due to Cap Foil Orientation?

I have done this on several occasions but I can't say I've heard a difference. Dumbles are a sensitive amp so nearly anything is possible. yes, even if you take a component (capacitor) out and then you resolder it exactly the same way in the same place sometimes there's a little change in sound... ...

Re: Changing caps to get a more transparent, sparkly, rich CLEAN

Thank you Gary I am aware of ESR but I never think in terms of Q or D (aka DF) :-( but actually D = 1/Q = ESR/Xc or Q = Xc/ESR so all that is needed to describe the behavior of a capacitor at a certain frequency is C and ESR DF is a measure of energy dissipated by the capacitor (or if you prefer ene...
