Re: PI trimmer and tube mismatch

The PI balance, tranny balance and output tube transconductance and NFB and reflected impedance all effect the harmonic distortion of the output stage. There is a direct relationship of the PI and the output tube matching as well so as your tubes age (become mis matched) you begin to drift away fro...

Re: Dynaco Mark III / #124 inspired preamp layout

V1 is a 12AT7, and V2 is a 12AU7 and am almost finished tweaking this thing. It is a clean machine w/ overdrive starting at about 12 o clock (chicken head knob reference). Still bringing in the midrange sweep on the pot (not much at all). The Treble and Bass sweep is good.

Re: Solid wire vs Stranded?

That old stranded verses solid conductor has been argued for decades. If you can hear the difference more power to you. The reason George L's cable sound "clearer" is that it is a low capacitance cable so it isn't dropping the highs. If the Teflon, silver coated, stranded wire is good enough for NA...

Re: Dynaco Mark III / #124 inspired preamp layout

Sorry but I have to tell you this story... I few years back I was at a garage sale and I bought this huge wacky 2 piece 60's console stereo because it had some cool Jensen speakers and a built in reel 2 reel and a turn table I figured I could sell on Ebay. (paid 125.00 for this hernia builder) When...

Re: Dynaco Mark III / #124 inspired preamp layout

Yeah finding a pair would make me reconsider them as a stereo amp not a guitar amp.

Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

The Dynaco Mk III @ 60W RMS ran a pretty close second to the Mac specs.

Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

Nope, Nyquist's 'math' works just fine in digital and stocastic control systems where the bandwidth is much higher than audio.

Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

Here is an interview with Tom Scholtz explaining why he doesn't like digital formats.. Do some of you out there agree with him? Scholz: Well, I'm spoiled rotten because I only hear two kinds of music: live and all-analog. When I have to deal with digital because of CD mastering, I don't like it tha...

Re: Dumble chickenhead knobs

Hi all, does anybody know where I can buy 1st and 2nd generation Dumble chickenhead knobs? AC, I have seen very similar knobs on used Oscilloscopes at ham fests. I don't have a particular source but you may find them on surplus radio websites. Here's a sample http://www.surplussales.com/shafthardwa...
