Re: Choke versus resistor for power filtering

just the choke, again look at the rocket schem. I cant remember but ken used the 1k for a reason. Try it and report your findings.

Re: Choke versus resistor for power filtering

"better" is subjective. look at the rocket PS, a choke replaces
1k-25w R between the CT and screens. Try it, maybe marshall like.

Re: Discharging filter caps

that is true! if it is an unknown circuit a 10k or what have you jumper is not a bad thing to have. I agree a bleeder should be a standard issue.

Re: Discharging filter caps

make up a jumper with 10k 1-2w resister in serious insulated/heat shrunk with insulated alligator clips. less spark than just a wire.

Re: Discharging filter caps

I believe the term is called "dielectric absorption". I'm pretty sure millivolts won't shock you. I've seen the high voltage oil-run caps with a resistor strapped across the terminals when stored to prevent this.
You can touch the ends of a 9v battery fine..

Re: standby switch position

"Follow valvewizard’s recommendation".
That's the plan. just need to modify my board with an extra eyelet. piece of cake!
thanks again pdf

Re: standby switch position

gotcha- the 5v would be on before the HT-winding.
I left some extra length on my tranny wires,, a good thing.
I'll move it between plate cap and screen.

thanks again pdf

Re: standby switch position

Thanks for your input PDF. From the Valve Wizard site its not recommended to "hot switch" the tube rectifier (still working out values for current limiting resistors). I have the center position of my switch -ac for heaters and lifted ct. top position engages ct. I assume this is not "hot switching"...

Re: standby switch position

I should have mentioned its a cathode bias output.
My PT is 700 ct so a tube rectifier is in order, would that be problematic?
the thing is it's the only switch I have.
plus when you elevate the filaments 6.3 is that a fix bias thing or can it be done with cath. bias output above the cath. voltage?

Re: standby switch position

Hi and thanks for your feedback.
"What are you hoping to accomplish?"
well, i have the hole drilled and switch. carling off-stby-on.
wanted to lift the CT, would this work? or something like the link valve wizard shows.
series resistor on the switch.

standby switch position

Greetings I was wondering want is the best position for the standby switch. 1. after rectifier- before the first filter cap for the plate/ OT. 2. between OT/plate and g2. 3. PT center tap with a full-wave forward rectifier. "3" seems like it may have less stress on the switch but not sure. I've noti...
