I can't link it right now, but there's a simpler 4x KT-88 called The Pig. Afaik, it was a one-off design for Mick Ronson. I imagine it uses the same iron.
[esit] there is info here on tag. Sounds like a problematic amp using Partridge iron!

Re: BF/SF Bassman mods with V2
i see "Bassman head mod" but not anything about Longhorn. I'll look at the Express schematic...been a while. I built a Liverpool and didn't like it thAt much.billyz wrote:Train wreck third stage. See my website for schematic, longhorn mod .

BF/SF Bassman mods with V2
Any standard gain mods using the unused half of V2? I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel, but I haven't come across any yet. Customer's amp already has a mid pot and a presence pot. I'm thinking a negative feedback pot or lift might be simpler.

Re: Single Parallel jack wiring
hmm...this is about my only significant contribution to the 18W group. I pointed out that the original design is like some of the 50's Fenders where they seemed to expect more than one input to be used simultaneously. My idea was to use the 5E8-a design, so that you get one triode from the Lo input ...

Anyone ever ask you why cargo planes or turbo props have to be so loud? So why do they have to give us crap about guitar amps?Ron Worley wrote:I flew C-130s for 20+ years. I'm not even gonna try this.
I lost my high end from middle ear infections before I ever played electric. C'est la guerre.

Re: G12-65 TL806
Mesa sells...or a least used to sell theirs, either with a 12L or that 90W Celestion thing...both late breakup intended to be clean speakers. I have a G1265 in an open back and it's my go to cab for a number of different heads. While I would be surprised if it's as good as the EV, I'm interested in ...

Re: 50w power amp for Alembic f2b
are you trying to recreate some David Gilmour vibe? If so, I think a DR50 would do fine. Bring B+ down some for modern EL-34 or JJ 6V6s.sergio wrote:Hi , what Hiwatt power amp and PI can I use with pre-amp Alembic f2b ?

Re: Fuse on heaters?
I used to work on a line of medical devices which had what we called pig tail fuses I haven't seen them for the 5 x 20mm size....should look. The idiots have wiring coming across the tops of FS2 and FS3 and they are too taut.

Fuse on heaters?
I've been working on a dead AC-30CC which turned out to have an open heater fuse. I have questions. 1) Is this typical for new amps for regulatory reasons? 2) If one blows but the replacement holds up for a while, is it probably just fatigue? (I don't have a direct way to check current draw) 3) One ...

Re: Vox AC30CC2 HELP NEEDED
I'm not sure I can help much. Typically, this sort of thing indicates a bad connection. It could be a wire, though I doubt it. I've been in a couple and wiring is okay. A power supply cap may have come loose. It's a matter of tearing it open and hoping you find a big black spot. There's 300 some odd...

AC-30C2 -- question about the output transformer
I've been asked to mod an AC-30C2. Finding the schematics was a pita, btw. Does it use the same Sanecore OT as the CC version? I ask because the Sanecore CC2 footprint does not match original iron or the MM Woden the customer wants. You have to drill holes in steel (which I hate). It's all about sco...

Re: Rivera Preamp scheme???
I sketched the preamp circuits out once, but they're in storage and I can't get at them. If you get the standard knucklehead schematic, print it 11" x 17", you can trace it using highlighters to mark where you've been. The thing is a mess and it's worse to read because he used the +/- 18Vdc heaters....
