Re: Xits X10 = liverpool half power?

Yeah, that's the AC30 top boost tonestack for you. As far as a treble/bass tonestack goes, I really like the AB763 blackface fender stack with .022uFs instead of the .1 and .047 bass and mid caps. You can play with the value of the treble cap and slope resistor too, although I tend to like the stock...

I've attached a drawing showing where it should go on the layout.

Re: 5E3 Scratch Build

Merlinb posted an article about it here:

It's at the bottom of the page under the heading, "Avoiding Unpleasant Overdrive Tones"

Re: So whats your Favorite tuning :)

I'm digging low plate classic clean side with high plate non-HRM OD. Am I the only one doing this??

Re: Do Polypropylene caps break in?

Honestly, if a film capacitor needs any sort of "break-in", it's poorly constructed and should be avoided.

Grid stopper, directly on the tube socket. Just make sure you put it after the 1M grid reference, not before :D

Re: 5E3 Scratch Build

Whatever you do, just remember to stick a 470k resistor on the grid of the phase splitter. You will not lose any gain or high end, and it will dramatically improve the distorted sound of the amp. Don't bother with the fixed bias PI ("Paul C mod" as some people call it) or any junk like that. Just ad...

Yeah, Mullards are sexy and all, and I have a few, but what a waste of money even at the $60 a piece that I paid. Hey Dave, we're practically neighbo...

Re: Single Coils/Dumble's

Stelligan, try plugging your strat straight in and just turning the preamp volume control up. I'm curious to hear how it sounds to you compared to putting a booster out front.

Re: Single Coils/Dumble's

I've got a 2x6V6 amp that sounds absolutely incredible with strats. The clean side has got 100k/1.5k on both triodes with 22uF bypass caps, and a BM stack. The OD is high plate non-HRM with 5uF bypass caps. The coupling cap coming off of V1b is a .02uF, and both coupling caps in the OD section are ....

Re: 2 Hole Octal 6V6s Rocket with Verb

Honestly sounds like Mark Huss' 6V6 plexi to me. I always thought it would be cool to add an extra input jack that goes to the grid of the unused triode, which feeds an extra 1MA pot on the front, the wiper of which then goes to the shorting lug of the "regular" input jack. So it's basically like a ...

Re: which coupling caps make the most difference in tone?

If you were to only change two capacitors, change the coupling caps coming off of the PI plates. Those are seeing the largest voltage swing of any signal capacitors, and hence will be subject to the most "nonlinear" behavior. Personally I prefer intelligent, deliberate, predictable, and measurable c...
