Trainwreck Airbrake (prototipo lookin' build on Ebay)

I was wondering if anybody's seen these large Airbrakes before. The seller's looking for $1K and there were no gut shots so it's anyone's guess what's inside. Re: Anyone seen the movie "It Might Get Loud?"

This was aired in it's entirety on VH-1 last week while I was out in New Mexico. It was great to see both of the youngerns jaws drop when the old Chinese dude started rocking Whole Lotta Love. He can still cut heads with his axe hanging beyond low! The premise made no sense to me without seeing what...

Re: Who here owns a Faustine Phantom attenuator?

vibratoking, I have a unit from the 70s that still works and does it well. The model I have uses wire-wound components built on what looks like fish paper and I don't remember seeing any typical "cement" resistors or aluminum finned resistors. The guts look more like my vintage decade resistors from...

I had a bad bit of info re: Your probes and their abilities to handle the big juice. I have a dandy Tektronix O'scope but few logable hours d...

No dude! You never want to put your probes on the B+ voltage! There are
other instruments one needs on their bench to confront the big DC voltages.

Re: Airbrake - What's the difference?

^ This! Adding the wire-wound rheostat brings your output down to "bedroom" levels with a slight roll-off of higher frequencies. It is a fairly expensive part & that may be why some chose to omit it. I don't mind the perceived roll-off. Plus I had one in my parts bin already. YMMV! I think venting t...

Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts

Paisley I personally don't take any interest in any of the 2 Rock products however thanks for taking all the time to document the amp and post your findings here. All The Best!! Tony I'm with talbany re: Two Rock products. They remind me of finding an amp I'd previously done work in and being appal...

Re: Tonetubbys?

+1K ^ RacerX23 nailed it! My research bore similar data using my Express build. The Scumbacks serve the Celestion vibe in Spades whereas the TT Alnico/Hempcones seemed to smear those honey dripping upper-mids in a nasty frequency harshage that's never been flattering to any sort of music. I can't re...

Re: Got shocked BAD

You fellows ought to take a big wager to the track or such-like and profit monetarily from such good fortune! I don't mean to be glib about safety or any thing so coarse. It's bloody amazing these brushes with death have been a harsh warning considering our odds in actually dying rather than being "...

Re: Vintage Fender/ Forrest White recover -Any idea for Fabric?

You can use anything with a cotton back, just start cruising fabric stores. dig around for some samples.. ^This.^ When you find something close the maddening hunt will begin. It gnawed at me even when I was doing something that had nothing to do with amps. Every year the vinyl/Tolex patter...

Rare view of Ray Butts' Echosonic Amp_detail heavy photo doc

Thanks for sharing these pics! I can't help wanting to see more of the tape loop's integration and more typical amp shots. Such as the control panel, speaker baffle, Tolex or whatever Ray dressed them in. What speaker did he use with your amp? I'm a long time fan of Deke Dickerson, Dave & Deke were ...

Re: Where to Source - 100k 3W Carbon Comp Resitor?

I bought a sack of 2W A/B carbon comps and they look for all the world to be the same size as the ones in Francesca. I too couldn't find any 3W CC types when I was sourcing parts so I gambled on the 2W resistors. I'm glad to see this being addressed here. Especially by folks with access to OEM's dat...

Re: Mechnically connecting parts and wire on eyelet board?

I've never had as great of luck with solder wick / braid as I have wished. I've felt I've had to over heat the component to make the solder transfer to the wick. I bought a rework station... now that's the ticket! heat and vacuum clean. I'm in the same situation re: solder braid. I actually thought...
