Re: 2nd Gen FET question

The setup I have at the moment looks like this;

If anyone can see anything wrong with this picture, I'd really appreciate it. It will save me from starting a new board.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Paul.

Re: 2nd Gen FET question

You can disconnect the power lead and then use the battery method to power it and see if you have an appropriate value for the bias resistor. Even if there are no wiring errors, the FET must be biased correctly. I bought a bag of ten 2N3823's not too long ago from a parts dealer, and 2N4416A's are ...

Re: 2nd Gen FET question

Hi Marcus, I used these 2N3823; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112032431092 Having said that, I still haven't managed to get my FET board to come to life. Either the FET is not working or something else is a bit dodgey. I'm going to completely rebuild the FET board tomorrow and find out if that helps. Da...

2nd Gen FET question (Solved)

Inspired by the tones that Erwin and others are getting using the FET boost, I've decided to revisit my 2ND Gen and get the FET working properly. My 2N3823 has 4 pins, but the layout/3rd Gen schem is wired with 3 pins. I realize that one of the pins is the case, but what needs to be done with this l...

I believe this is Normster's original 6V6 ODS layout. I hope he doesn't mind me posting.

Re: 2nd Gen hybrid

Really great job Erwin, that sounds amazing!
You have just convinced me to convert my 2nd Gen to Hybrid!
Did you have any switches engaged on the amp for the recording?

Cheers,
Paul

Re: #124 Loop Compensation Network Question

Thanks Erwin,
I had it in my mind that the network took away some highs, rather than adding sparkle! It all makes sense now; I knew that it had to be something like that. The same end result but from the opposite direction

Good luck with your builds and best wishes,

Paul

#124 Loop Compensation Network Question

I'm just getting back into some amp building after a break, and am doing another #124. I've been looking over the files section and Tony's amazing layouts, and have been wondering......I always thought that the 'Loop Compensation network' (or whatever I should call it) in #124 was so that it would c...

Re: A bit too much bass on OD - 2nd Gen Hybrid

You could also try placing another cap straight after the switch on the OD input, so that it puts it in series with the cap just before the switch exiting the clean stage, which will reduce bass in OD only- I think!

Hope that helps/works!

Hi Synchu,

I've only managed a quick browse but to me it looks really good.

Thank you so much for taking the time to gives Rob's archive a new home.

Best wishes,

Paul.

Josh Smith talks about Dumble

I came across this last night. The whole video is a good watch for us guitar geeks, but in particular Josh Smith recounts some of his dealings with HAD. The Dumble bit starts at 32:30.

Apologies if this has been posted already.

Re: Larry Carlton's amps Gear Page thread

Thanks for posting 10thtx, I saw Larry Carlton on the same day as the guy who posted the Gear Page thread and was surprised to see he was using just his amp and pedal board. I was expecting to see his FX running through his Wet/dry setup. He sounded great but he did ask one of the stage crew to chec...

Re: 2nd Generation ODS first power up issue! (Resolved)

Thanks M Fowler,

I'm really liking the new tones available from this 2nd Gen build. I particularly like the transition from clean to OD. It's basically the same tone, but with more 'hair'. Nice!

Cheers, Paul.

Re: 2nd Generation ODS first power up issue! (Resolved)

Thanks for all responses. It seems as though the issue is now resolved. I'm not absolutely sure which single remedy solved the problem, but I did notice that one of the wires from PI tube socket to grid resistors' solder joint had too much sleeve attached, which may have caused a less than perfect c...
