Re: So let me get this straight...

As a casual "outsider" who only builds amps for my personal use, I am clear who has helped and contributed to my better understanding of how amps works and how to build them. As someone who complains about others living off of the legend of the aforementioned amp building greats, you sir, remind us...

New amp design - no transformers, auto everything concept

Milbert Amplifiers, GAGA-50. It appears he has done some pretty cool stuff with car amps. His concept here was to make it basically idiot proof from a users perspective, taking care of bias, power mains, output, tube selection, while delivering a quality amp tonally. I haven't heard any clips, or be...

Re: when is it cool to have someone sign a piece of gear?

Well said, bcmatt!... Usually, when I see autographed guitars, visions of radio station sleazebags come to mind... But, my guitar player's G&L broadcaster...with Leo's signature in the neck pocket...Priceless!! Well, that is different. That is like Picasso signing one of his own pieces of work. I a...

Re: Dumble variations..silly question?

what makes a Dumble different from a Fender Twin, a classical Marshall og even an old VOX??? The ability to get the solo tone that's been in your head ever since you developed a passion for the electric guitar. If you've already experienced that there is no reason to pursue a Dumble style amp. If y...

Yeah, but you gotta like the passion in his post, even though it was hard to read. Clearly, it bothered him and he is willing to do something about it. That is worth something in my book.

Re: 1989 Rare Dumble ODS 6V6 Videos

I would think that rare and Dumble are redundant.

Doesn't help that it is recorder through the video camera. Sounds like crap. Too bad, it would be nice to hear the difference the 6v6s make.

Re: Two amps not working this week

I like the threat that manufactures use, "Opening Product Will Void Warrenty." Fo Shizzle ... whom do they think they're kidding!? Is there a hair or a thread placed delicately on one of the screws? Do they dust for prints then run them against an Interpol or FBI database? If they really ...

Re: Would the Express V1 benefit from this?

I would imagine it amounts to a form of feedback, probably in the lower frequencies, as the higher ones would carry less mechanical energy. Question becomes, how much is this feedback a part of "The Sound".

Re: Blatty when guitar vol rolled down?

Intermittent, loose connection? Is the channel selection done with a switch? Signal is weak to begin with at full volume, then when you roll the guitar volume down, it becomes more evident. My first response was guitar volume pot issue, but if it plays clean on another channel, most likely not. Alth...

Re: Oscillation

Hello! I would try reversing the plate wires from the primary of the output transformer to the power tube sockets. If they were reversed, then the negative feedback would become positive feedback, and it would oscillate. Of course if you don't have feedback then it would not matter. Not sure how th...

Re: TUT 6 - Dumble?

I used vol 1 as a starting point for getting up to speed on tube amps. For that, it is a fantastic book. I still use it as a reference from time to time. Vol 3 also rocks with the many builds he has in there, from a champ to a Marshall Major. One issue I do have is that if you look at the series as ...

Isn't that how all of the finger tapping got started anyway? Eddie was simply "playing piano" on his guitar. I think he started off playing piano at a young age.
