Re: So, NFB Is Good, But......?

This ^(pdf64 and TUBEDUDE) and also the fact that most of what brings interest in tube amplification lies in non-linear behavior. Poles and zeros, gain/phase margin, most of the classical control theory applies when *linear* operation is assumed. Which is a false hypothesis most of the time for the ...

Re: Oscillation action shots!

Hello Romberg, I had a very similar problem a few years back in a Marshall Major. The relationship between the phase inverter and the power tubes was reversed. The crests out of the PIs push pull action were cutoff-cutoff instead of saturation-saturation (if I remember correctly). The sharp edges se...

Re: Bonamassa's Dumble's for sale

Sorry to derail the thread... But Is it me or this curve has all the characteristics of a speaker impedance? Time to liquidate. No one can predict when, but It seems inevitable that the "Dumble Market" will crash. Automobile enthusiasts may remember this: [img:978:596]http://img.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Measured Impedance of Speakers

Yup, it can be a little more involved if you want precision and accuracy.

But, as you mentioned, for a ball park, the DMM on "Ohms" range is fine.

Contact resistance is a real bummer in this context. I've seen up to 4-5 Ohms easy...

Re: Measured Impedance of Speakers

Please ignore if this has been suggested before. Pick a low value resistor that you know well (that's the though part to get started, perhaps you have a 0.1% resistor? A 1% is not bad to start with...). You certainly have some left from a tube bias circuit mod you added on an amp... Put the known R ...

Re: Feedback - try this at home?

I experimented with a system similar to the sustainor around the summer of 2008. I used a dimarzio hotrail as an actuator. The pickup was rewired with thicker enameled wire (something like AWG 24-28, IIRC) and driven with an COTS 1W amp (probably using an LM386 of some sort, as previously suggested ...

Re: scope trace question

Hello surfsup, Yup, got the same thing a while back. See this thread: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5958&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 In the youtube vid, you see the trace in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&v=TRfByCL74rM Since the blip is on only one polarity of ...

Re: Scope and sine wave signal question

Hello surfsup, If you could post a snapshot of what you see, it would be easier to help you out with this. It you can also post the scope brand and model number, that would help a lot to guide you through basic setup for a 1kHz sine. When you listen to this wave through a speaker, do you have the im...

Re: 65Amps PI alteration: Seen this?

Hello rooster, Interesting find! However, my understanding is that if you bypass a cathode in a gain stage (be it differential or single stage), you will get higher gain for the decoupled frequencies. In other words, my intuition tells me this bypass cap will boost higer frequencies more than anythi...

Re: Solid wire vs Stranded?

Nasa definitely has to deal with vibrations. Tie-wraps and stranded can be snugly dressed to the closest mass/rocket part/whatever. Less harmful vibration this way for the wire assemblies. Stranded is also redundant in a way. Electrons mostly stop flowing when the "first strand" of a single-strand w...

Re: Power supply for KT-88s

Don't know if you want to consider this, but some amps simply run them ultra-linear with 40% taps on the OT primaries for the screens. As in a Marshall Major, for example. More expensive OT and probably an amp that you would like for cleaner sounds, but I thought I'd mention it as another possible t...
